IRL looking to scoop Long Beach?

The IRL is talking with Long Beach about taking that major event away from Champ Car....

TSN.ca - Auto Racing - Canada's Sports Leader: "Following the Indy Racing League's first foray into street racing, there are plans to expand the format in 2006. And this time, rather than just dipping a toe into Champ Car territory, the IRL is going after an event which has helped shape the history of Champ Car racing.

IRL vice president Ken Ungar tells the Indianapolis Star they are in 'serious discussions' with officials from Long Beach about possibly adding an IRL street race for 2006. Long Beach's contract with Champ Car is scheduled to expire after next weekend's season opener.

Unlike St. Petersburg, which was on the schedule for one year in 2003, Long Beach has a long tradition with Champ Car, dating back to 1984 and has been one of the most successful street races and events on the calendar. "
