DRAGS: Bob Elliott & the Northern Force Leave Their Mark on History

WINGHAM, ON (April 18, 2005) Legendary Canadian drag racer Bob Elliott of Wingham, Ontario now has his original funny car fire-suit on display at the Canadian Motorsport Hall Of Fame in Toronto Ontario. Elliott, who was nominated for induction into the Hall Of Fame two years ago, had a popular and successful career behind the wheel of his Northern Force Funny Cars and is one of only four drivers in the world to have competed in all three styles of funny car: alcohol, nitro-methane, and jet turbine powered.

Elliott, who is currently working on funding to compete in the Top Fuel Dragster class, stated; “I am so proud to be a part of this tribute to Canadian motor-sports. “When Hall of Fame Administrator Tim Miller called to see if I had my original suit and asked if I would be interested in donating it to the Hall Of Fame I was truly honored.”

The suit is still in its original form from the last time it was worn down the quarter mile. When looking at it Elliott said “It looks like something out of the Middle Ages but this old beauty kept me safe for many 200 mph passes down the quarter mile. I was, however, happy to have improved technology as my cars approached the 300 mph mark.”

Bob’s fire-suit display is part of an expanding exhibit featuring drag racing memorabilia that will include a working “Christmas tree” and one of the original timing systems used to monitor speed and elapsed time.
