BRIGHTON SPEEDWAY PARK: Literacy Program

“Literacy is the key to our fast paced world!”

BRIGHTON, ON – The Racing to Read Program is a program used to encourage students in grade 3 to read outside of school, which in turn helps to promote literacy within our communities. The students are encouraged to read at home with their parents. The time they spend reading is logged along with their parent’s signature and then returned to the school.

Brighton Speedway representatives and race car drivers will be visiting the five pilot schools during the week of April 18, 2005. Log sheets will be handed out to the close to 300 students and then the program will run for two weeks, April 25 May 6. The students will be expected to record the minutes spent reading at home on a daily basis. Parents will be expected to sign off on the minutes each day.

Every student who participates will receive a Congratulations letter and a free pass for them and one adult to attend the Racing to Read night at Brighton Speedway on May 21st, 2005.

The winning class out of the nine that will be participating this year, will win a Pizza Party with Speedway Drivers and will be invited onto the track to be recognized as the winning class in the Racing to Read Program. Each of these students will receive a Brighton Speedway Souvenir along with other prizes supplied by various local companies who have come on board as sponsors.

The top student and his/her family will be invited to enjoy races from a VIP Booth and will get to present all Driver Awards for that night. This student will also receive a Brighton Speedway Souvenir.

Students and parents can visit the Brighton Speedway website and look for school stats at www.brightonspeedway.com. The winning school and student will be announced on Monday, May 9, 2005.
