ALMS: Burgess steers Yokohama Porsche to 7th in GT2

Special to Inside Track
BRASELTON, GA – Toronto’s Tony Burgess finished seventh in class (GT2) at the Grand Prix of Atlanta on April 17, the second round of the 2005 American Le Mans Series.

Burgess, and co-driver Porsche factory pilot Sascha Maassen, struggled with grip for most of the race around the 2.54 mile, 12-turn circuit, in the BAM Motorsport Yohohama Porsche 911 GT3 RSR. It was a disappointing day for both drivers after qualifying fourth on Saturday.

“After a relatively good practice and qualifying, (qualified fourth in class) we had a poor race,” Burgess said. “The development tires we used lost grip after 40 minutes of a 70 minute stint. This happened to both me and Sascha (Maassen). Unfortunately I drove most of the race, so I had a real struggle not to be overtaken for position toward the end. We are confident that we will have the problem remedied by the next event at Mid-Ohio, May 22.”
