MOSPORT: Rock, Racing and Fireworks at the Victoria Day Speedfest

BOWMANVILLE, ON - Camping, racing, music and fireworks highlight the Victoria Day Weekend SpeedFest May 20, 21 & 22, 2005, Mosport International Raceway's season opener and the first long weekend of the summer.

Mosport's 700 plus acres of private park is the place to be for one of Ontario's biggest and best Victoria Day Weekend birthday parties. The sounds of race cars will mix with the sounds of rock and classic rock music, Saturday and Sunday, capped off with a spectacular fireworks show Sunday evening.

Mosport will also put the speed in this SpeedFest with a full slate of racing. Muscle car enthusiasts are going to revel in the sounds of Detroit iron blasting up the Andretti straight at speeds over 250 km/h. The American GT Challenge (AGT) is now in it's second season of competition with purpose-built tube frame race cars and earth pounding V8 horsepower from the likes of Chevy and Ford with Corvettes, Camaros and Mustangs. Canada's Charlie Webster, the inaugural series champion, will lead the Canadian contingent into battle against all AGT challengers on his home turf.

After a 29-year hiatus, the Sundown Grand Prix returns to Mosport this Victoria Day Weekend. Teams from the Ontario Touring Car Championship, many racing at night for the first time, will wrap up the weekend's on-track action Sunday night with a three-hour race into darkness around Mosport's 4 km undulating roadcourse.

The new look Honda/Michelin Challenge Series caused quit a stir at the Canadian International Auto Show this past February. Outfitted with a tuned exhaust and firmly set with their new Dynamic Suspension package, the Civics are going to shatter lap times from 2004 on their return this Victoria Day Weekend.

Other races include the Isseco Formula 1200 single seat open wheel cars, along with NASCAR-style 'mini me' cars - the 3/4 scale Cup Lites stock cars. Both these series offer competitive racing, keeping fans on edge, lap after lap, with multiple lead changes and thrilling side-by-side action.
