SOD: SPRINTS ON DIRT SET TO GET 26TH SEASON UNDERWAY

Saturday, April 30th will mark the beginning of the 26th Annual “Engine Pro, Sprints On Dirt presented by Total Seal” tour as Ron Flynn’s Crystal Motor Speedway plays host to the thundering winged sprint car series.

SOD President, Jason Fausey has assembled a thirty four race schedule that will see the series compete on eighteen different speedways in four states and Canada, on the way to crowning the 2005 Point Champion.

For the first time in many years, the series carries a title sponsor name as Total Seal with the cooperative effort of the Perfit Corporation of Grand Rapids Engine Pro division have stepped up. Along with new heat race sponsors Ohsweken Speedway, XYZ Machining Inc., Engler Tool and Machine and Comp Cams with the cooperation of Lane Automotive, the series offers one of the strongest contingency programs in the region.

Along with Jason, Beth Fausey, Cheryl Pelkie and Ken Pelkie all return to the staff for the 2005 season. Newcomers Ben Stachowicz and Mike Olrich join the team and will share pit steward and tech inspection duties.

Safety First will provide ‘on track’ fire and rescue expertise. Kenetic Photos once again returns as the official series photographers.

2004 Champion, Dustin Daggett will return to the series as time away from his 410 sprint car will allow. He will be at Crystal opening day along with last year’s runner-up in the points chase, Nick Mulheim of Navarre, Ohio.

Mark Broughman has his equipment freshened and is eager to get the season underway. Gregg Dalman, Bill Johnson, Len Robison and Tim Norman are equally anxious and prepared.

2004 Rookie of the Year runner-up, Kirk Cheney will return with new equipment while veterans Dain Naida, Jon Nichoson, John Gall, Wayne Morrison, Mark Irwin and Brett Mann are all expected opening day with fresh machines. Expected entrants also include Canadians Kyle Patrick, who is expected to be a 2005 regular, along with Glenn Styres. Ohio drivers J .R. Stewart, Scott Cramer and Caleb Griffith will also be in the field.

Gates will open Saturday, April 30th at 4:30 p.m. with hot laps set for 6:00 p.m.
