BARRIE SPEEDWAY: Opener Cancelled... moved to April 30

Welcome to Barrie Speedway: "Season opener postponed to April 30 ....

The weatherman is forecasting extremely bleak conditions throughout the weekend and well into next week, forcing the speedway to push back the season opener one week to April 30.

'Well, we're real disappointed,' lamented Brad Moran, 'but they're calling for rain or snow right into next week. As much as we'd like to go, we really don't want to be chasing the weather the entire night on our season opener. Everyone's been waiting a long time to get out on the new track, and we really want it to be a special night.'

The track staff have been monitoring the weather forecasts closely all week, and as of Friday morning it was apparent that we're in for either a rainy or snowy weekend. Despite their checkered record for accuracy of late, you have to figure that even the weatherman can't be THAT wrong.

The season will get underway next Saturday night. The pits open at 2pm, a little earlier than normal to give everyone extra time to prepare. The spectator gates open at 5:30 with the green flag in the air at 7pm. See you there! "
