Brockville Ontario Speedway: Banquet & News

BROCKVILLE, ON – The countdown is on as the 2005 racing season nears at Brockville Ontario Speedway. The track opens up for another campaign on Friday night, May 13th with a special 50 lap feature for the 358 Modifieds to kick things off in style.

Brockville promoter Paul Kirkland has received a special honour for this season. Kirkland has been named to the DIRT Motorsports Appellate Board for Modifieds. The Board rules on appeals lodged by drivers and owners who are seeking recourse in rulings made in DIRT Motorsports events. The panel was selected based on recommendations of drivers, promoters, team owners, crew members and manufacturers.

"It's quite a honour that those in the motorsports community that I could help out in this way," said Kirkland. "I think this shows how highly reguarded that Brockville Ontario Speedway is when it comes to fair play in motorsports." Other members of the board are Andy Fusco of DIRT, driver Tim Fuller, owner Randy Ross, crew member Peter Chuckta and Gary Spaid of DIRT.

Earlier this month, local race teams and drivers gathered for a celebration of last season with the 2004 track banquet. Four of the five track champions were on hand for the event. Danny O’Brien and Evoy Racing were honoured for their share of the Modified title with Steve Paine, who was the best man at a friends wedding that night. A fashionable Kyle Dingwall recieved his due for the Sportsman track crown. Young Dana Aikens picked him the hardware as top Street Stock pilot in 04 while Rookie honours went to Billy Woodward Jr.

Brockville Ontario Speedway took the opportunity to honour the Brockville Recorder and Times for their efforts in providing coverage of speedway events at the banquet. Editor Ron Smith was on hand to accept the award on behalf of the paper that not only covers every event at the track but often does mid week profiles and stories on various drivers and teams helping to raise awareness of Motorsports in the Leeds-Grenville area.
