NASCAR: Jacombs sets sights on Barrie

Hamilton, ON: The Jacombs Racing/Lou's BBQ/CPS Flooring Ford Taurus team of Dave Jacombs has been preparing for this big Canada Day Weekend event for two weeks and they are set to go racing. The Mopar 300 presented by Dodge Dealers of Ontario is a full three days of activies for the CASCAR race teams starting Friday with a downtown Barrie dispaly at Promenade Days then a Pit Stop Competition for the teams, followed by a Pit Stop Party at the Roxx.

The #88 Taurus team is looking for a better finish than the eleventh they notched here in the May event. My team have been working long hours on the car and motor program to make us better and we are confident we will have a better finish this time," said Jacombs. "It's a fun weekend at Barrie and we are looking forward to it."

Barrie Speedway, the host of the 2005 Canada Day weekend event as well has continued to upgrade their 1/3 mile tri-oval facility for both the fans and drivers. New ashpault has been put down to improve the racing surface after problems last year and fans will find lots of racing action over the two days with three of the home series divisions in attendance along with the CASCAR Sportsman and Super Series teams.

On Saturday, CASCAR practice is from Noon until 2 p.m., spectator gates open at 3:30, with home series heats and B features from 4:20 until 6:20 p.m. CASCAR time trials are at 6:30 with home features to follow. Finally the CASCAR Twin 50 Qualifying Races are set to take the green at 9 p.m. Upon completion there will be fireworks and a music concert and party until 1 a.m.

Sunday's schedule starts with CASCAR Sportsman Series practice at 11:00 a.m, with their 100 lap event to follow at 12:45. The Mopar 300 presented by Dodge Dealers of Ontario is scheduled to start at 3:30 p.m.

Jacombs currently sits in thirteenth in the owners CASCAR Championship Points after three events.
