Frustrating Weekend At Mosport For Bryan Cathcart And The Mid America Team

June 19, 2006. It was a weekend spent chasing troubles at Mosport International Raceway for driver Bryan Cathcart and the Mid America Motorsports team. What they hoped would be a positive step forward for their season unfortunately turned into a fact finding mission at round two of the CASCAR Super Series.

With only a short time allotted for practice the team began preparations for the Clarington 200 on Sunday afternoon and seemed to be heading in the right direction. However during Saturday’s action a clutch problem set them back and the team was forced to start the main event 23rd.

Knowing there is always attrition during these road course events the team adopted a steady and patient strategy, allowing the race to come to them. Early on Bryan Cathcart looked to settle into a rhythm and put in consistent laps around the world class road course. The car had other ideas.

With only a handful of laps completed Cathcart was forced to make an unscheduled pit stop. The driver sensed that it was a bad spark plug or perhaps a wire had come loose but the engine was off. Hoping they had the problem corrected Cathcart was sent back out, but soon returned to pit lane for an extended stop. The Mid America crew quickly went to work checking for the problem that was starving the engine of power, unfortunately not all the answers could be found and the team ended the race with a 25th place finish.

“We all worked hard” said Mid America principal Dave Didero “it just didn’t work out for us today. We’ll have some serious work to do before the next race”.

Driver Bryan Cathcart was equally disappointed. “This is the most frustrating thing” he stated. “Trying to make these quick repairs when you’re in the heat of the battle, it’s tough on the guys. They worked hard though and we’ll be ready for the next race”.

The next event on the CASCAR Super Series schedule is the annual Canada Day weekend event. This year scheduled to take place at Barrie Speedway on July 1st and 2nd.
