TSN has a story saying that NASCAR officials just toured Circuit Gilles Villeneuve and are "moving forward with their plans" to race at the track, as early as 2007.
The story discusses alterations to the track. I've heard some say that if any part of the track is changed, it will have to be re-approved by F1, and the cost of that process is several million dollars. Another issue is the number of events that can be staged at the facility per year.
