NBIS: DQ Something Different for Kids Day

DQ Something Different for Kids Day DQ Offering Up Treats, Free Youth Tickets

Fredericton, NB – Race fans always get excited about a great stock car event. But this weekend’s events have a little extra for the sport’s youngest fans. On Sunday, May 28th, Dairy Queen will present Kids Day at NBIS, an annual favourite for fans and drivers of all ages. The racing starts at 2pm, but the real action for the kids starts at 1pm with the pre-race autograph session in the pits. There were also be several other attractions for the youngsters.

Kid’s Day is an annual event, but this is the second year that Dairy Queen is sponsoring the day and in co-owner Steven Burns’ eyes, they made a huge impact.

“It’s always been a really popular event on our schedule, but last year DQ pulled it up another notch. They had a real presence and were very active, bringing their characters and some treats for the kids,” says Burns. “We had lot of happy kids and parents at the end of the day. You don’t even have to be a stock car fan to enjoy this kind of fun.”

The event includes an In-the-Pits pre-race autograph session from 1pm-1:45pm, where kids get to meet their favourite driver in the pits. Drivers enjoy the session as much as the kids since they don’t normally have time to interact with their youngest fans for an extended period prior to the race. They are usually busy prepping their cars.

There is also a candy scramble on the front stretch during intermission. Last year, the kids picked up 50kg of candy in less than 2 minutes. “They are the only thing faster than the cars on that day,” said Burns.

Dairy Queen has some surprises in store for the fans including free youth tickets. As part of their sponsorship, Dairy Queen is offering a limited amount of free youth tickets (ages 9-15) this week at Dairy Queen locations on Prospect St and Union St. in Fredericton starting on Thursday. Just ask for a free youth ticket upon purchase of any kid’s meal. By the way, children 8 and under are always free at NBIS stock car events.

In between off-track events, there will be points racing in the CARQUEST Pro Stocks, Martin’s Home Heating, and Coast Tire Street Stock Divisions. Autograph session takes place starting at 1pm with racing starting at 2pm.
