Monterrey, Mexico, May 21, 2006 After winning their first Champ Car Atlantic race in the morning with their Atlantic squad, the Mi-Jack Conquest Racing Team put in another strong performance this afternoon on the 2.104-mile road course at Fundidora Park in Monterrey, Mexico. Andrew Ranger of Roxton Pond, Quebec finished seventh while his teammate Charles Zwolsman of the Netherlands ended the day in 12th place.
Ranger started the race in 13th place and moved up three positions on the start to move into tenth, he continued to battle his way back up to seventh, giving him, for the third race in a row, the point for most improved driver during the race. Despite running on a race to race basis, Ranger remains fourth in championship standings not knowing if he will be in Milwaukee in two weeks.
Starting 13th and finishing seventh is another excellent result for the team. It was a tough race. With only one yellow it was hard to catch up to the front runners but the team did excellent pit stops and we had a great race. We finished one position behind from where we finished the first two races but I am still very, very happy. The team proved that we can be competitive, be in the top-ten and that we work really hard, explained Ranger. I want to thank the Mi-Jack Conquest Racing Team for having me here this weekend and I hope that we can find the means to be in Milwaukee.
Charles Zwolsman had a much tougher day than his teammate finishing in 12th place after starting a career best tenth. Chachi as he is likeably called by his teammates, started strong, but mistakes from the cars in front of him cost him a few positions on track, not only once but twice.
"We had an excellent strategy going into the race, I made up a place during my first pit stop and we were running well until the car in front of me made a mistake. I had to go on the outside into the marbles and ended up at the back of the field. I had to fight my way back up and I finished the race in 12th position."
Next up for the Mi-Jack Conquest Racing Team will be the first race of the season on an oval in Milwaukee in two weeks time.
