ACT EXPANSION MOVES NORTH INTO QUEBEC

SANAIR SUPER SPEEDWAY TO OPEN ’06 ACTION SUPER SERIES

The ever-widening acceptance of the American-Cannadian Tour’s (ACT) cost-effective rules package has opened the U.S.-Canadian border to expansion of the Late Model stock car racing series. Quebec’s legendary 7/8ths mile Sanair Super Speedway tri-oval will host the first of three $10,000 to win ACTion Super Series races in 2006. “La Mega Classique” will bring together the ACT Late Model Tour and Quebec’s Late Model Séries Castrol on Saturday and Sunday, July 8-9, for what is touted to be the biggest race in the history of Late Model racing in Canada. Over $75,000 (Cdn) will be on the line. Denis Lachance, owner of the Circuit Ste-Croix near Quebec City will promote the event.

The lightening fast Sanair tri-oval, located outside Montreal, was a frequent stop on Curley’s ACT Tour from the track’s opening in 1983 through 1994. Last year, Lachance successfully promoted a Series Castrol event at the track to rave reviews. “There is a great enthusiasm from the Canadian fans and competitors to bring ACT back to Sanair,” Lachance recently commented. “We have put together a super race weekend which will feature three premiere divisions. In addition to the Late Model cars from the US and Canada, ACT’s Sportsman cars and the dirt Modified cars from Airborne Speedway (Plattsburgh, NY), as well as Granby and Drummondville in Quebec will compete. I wouldn’t be surprised to see more than 130 cars,” he finished.

The Monza-style La Mega Classique, which will be contested under ACT procedures and rules, will be comprised of three 50-lap segments. The finish of each segment will be inverted to start the next and the overall winner will be the driver with the lowest cumulative point total from his performance (in each segment a win gets 1 point, a 5th earns five points, etc).

“I’m tickled to be able to go back to Sanair,” enthused Mark Lamberton, an ACT Tour competitor from Mooers Forks, NY. “I ran second to Joey Laquerre in my first late model race at that track,” he recalled. “To say I like that track is an understatement, before that I had won a Sportsman race there as well!” he finished with a grin.
