Jaguar is heading back to the race track.
This time, the company is giving Formula One a miss and is instead using its new
XKR Coupe as the base for a racer in the FIA GT3 Euro Series next year.
Apex Motorsport is developing the
XKR and is the team behind the success of the Bentley Le Mans racer, so it knows a thing or two about endurance motorsport.
Although the Apex XKR is not a factory entry, it has the full blessing of
Jaguar.
Richard Lloyd, of Apex, said: "It's obvious to us the Jaguar name was missing from the list of GT3 contenders and we aim to put that right. We believe the new XK has huge potential."
Jaguar says it has no plans to build an uprated
GT3 XKR road-going model.
