NASCAR Canadian Tire Series.... more observations

Yesterday's NASCAR Canadian Tire Series announcement garnered more attention than a Canadian grassroots racing event has received in the time I've been in the sport.

The most interesting thing to watch are the people who have ignored Canadian racing for years, struggle to catch up. Or more correctly, attempt to fake that they know something about what is happening.

Question after question about Montreal.... when yesterday wasn't about Montreal or the Cup Series.

I laughed all the way in to work this morning. On the Fan590, there was a guy named Mike Hogan hosting a show. He proudly proclaimed that he has no interest in NASCAR. I thought that was an odd admission for someone in his position to make. Kind of ignorant.

After his 15th consecutive caller came on the line, raving about how much fun stock car racing is and what a blast it is to attend NASCAR races, you would have thought it would have clicked with the guy that he was coming off like a putz. He might as well have admitted that he didn't care about hockey or basketball.

It was very clear that however many listeners the guy has, a lot of them are NASCAR / racing fans. But he doesn't care.

Anyway, as someone who has a business in this field, I give thanks every day that these so-called experts would rather sit in a cushy box at the Dome, throwing back suds and eating free grub, than getting out to the short tracks and speedways to find out what their listeners are so passionate about. Do you think it's just laziness?

When was the last time someone called into a radio station ranting passionately about baseball? Keep it up buddy.
