CASCAR SPORTSMAN: Shawn McGlynn wins the Texaco-Havoline 100 CASCAR Sportsman Series race at Cayuga Int’l Speedway
HAMILTON, ON – Shawn McGlynn put on a dominant performance in Sunday’s Texaco-Havoline 100 CASCAR Sportsman Series race at Cayuga Int’l Speedway.
The Kitchener, ON racer started on the pole for the 100-lap race around the 5/8-mile speedway and led every lap. At the checkered flag, the Ford driver finished almost five seconds ahead of reigning series champ Dion Verhoeven (McRoberts Fuels Pontiac) and Steve Munro (Hot Wheels Chevy).
The victory was the third of McGlynn’s career and second in a row. In the last two races combined, the veteran racer has led 199 of a possible 200 feature laps.
Three-time CASCAR National champion Dave Whitlock, who would go on to win the Hot Head Henry 200 Powered by Griddly Headz CASCAR Super Series race later in the evening, started second in the field of 17. The Wyoming, ON driver set the fastest lap of the race and was running a close second to McGlynn when his engine expired just seven laps into the Texaco-Havoline 100.
Following four CASCAR Sportsman Series races, Dion Verhoeven leads the points by two markers over Shawn McGlynn (326 to 324). The fifth and final CASCAR Sportsman Series race of the 2006 season takes place in two weeks at Kawartha Speedway.
