MOSPORT: Set to host two-wheeled doubleheader weekend

BOWMANVILLE, ON (July 11, 2006) - Open-wheeled racing in the Toronto area gives way to the two-wheeled variety as Canada’s biggest motorcycle road race, The Canadian Superbike Doubleheader, comes to Mosport International Raceway this weekend, July 14-16.

This event is the premier stop and only doubleheader round in Canada’s national motorcycle road racing championships and features the country’s top riders, big- name factory teams and privateers.

The Superbike class is the premier category of the weekend. Defending series champion, Francis Martin of Sherbrooke, Quebec, a factory Suzuki rider, and Yamaha’s Pascal Picotte (Granby, QC) who is last year’s Mosport Doubleheader victor and winner of five consecutive Mosport rounds, will try to stop the red-hot Jordan Szoke (Brantford) from winning his fourth and fifth races in as many outings this year for Canadian Kawasaki. Szoke’s last Superbike win at Mosport’s famed road course came in 2002.

One of the fastest growing national championships is the Canadian Thunder Series for twin-cylinder production-based sport bikes like Buell, BMW and Ducati. Richmond, B.C. rider Darren James comes to Mosport as the defending Thunder Series champ aboard a Buell. Just two years as a national class, James has emerged as the category’s first big star and is the man to beat this weekend.

In total, there are three full days of racing action provided by eight different classes of motorcycle racing.

Three-day advance SuperTickets are just $50 and can be purchased by calling the Mosport Hotline at 1-800-866-1072 or though our on-line box office at http://www.mosport.com/ . After July 12, the SuperTicket price is $60. Children 12 and under are admitted (when accompanied with an adult paid admission) and weekend camping is also free with admission.
