Dissappointing Run For Brown at Sun Valley Brantford Driver Finishes Eleventh In 300-Lap Event

It was long afternoon for Doug Brown at Sun Valley Speedway outside of Vernon, BC on Sunday afternoon. When the weekend of racing ended, the Brantford driver brought his NAPA /Autopro Monte Carlo home in eleventh place in the 300-lap event which saw 12 of the 34 starters still running on the lead lap.

“It was little frustrating out there today”. Doug reported following the afternoon race. “ I missed a shift on the last restart and fell three positions in the running order and I couldn’t recover with such few laps remaining. There were also a lot of lapped cars out there that were creating a problem in trying to catch the leaders,” he added.

Brown recorded the sixth fastest time in Saturday’s time trials and started third in the second 100-lap qualifier where he maintained a strong challenge of race leader Kerry Micks. But a rear tire problem forced him to back off the torrid pace finishing sixth and earning a disappointing twelfth-place spot in Sunday’s starting order.

“We definitely had a top-ten car today but I made a couple of other moves that may have affected the outcome. But we just have to put those behind us and get ready for Edmonton”, the veteran commented on his first finish outside the top-ten this season.

The team will spend a few days in the Vernon area before heading to the Alberta capital for the three-day CHAMP Car Grand Prix of Edmonton weekend.

FIRST FOR GRAHAM

Brad Graham of Glencoe won the Vernon race, capturing his first major win since entering CASCAR Super Series competition. DJ Kennington of St. Thomas finished second followed by JR Fitzpatrick of Cambridge, Scott Steckly of Milverton and Kerry Micks of Mt. Albert.

With the points’ battle heading into the event very close among the top-ten teams and his eleventh-place finish, Doug will drop a few positions in the standings.

The final race rundown and updated points are not available at this time but will be posted early next week.
