Montreal, Canada (July 10, 2006) – Having competed in Belgium, Monaco and Turkey so far this season, Canada’s Sean McIntosh heads to the Misano Circuit in Italy this weekend, 15th-16th July, for Round 4 of the 2006 World Series by Renault.
The KTR racer enjoyed a break-out weekend in last month’s double-header at Istanbul Park, opening his points scoring account with a pair of top-six finishes to launch himself into 11th place in the Driver Standings. The 21-year-old Vancouver-native, who was just one spot away from a points scoring run in the second round in Monaco, capitalized on the pace of his Formula Renault 3.5 car in the first race in Turkey to slice through the field from a seventh-row grid slot to take fourth at the checkered.
The following day McIntosh again responded to a mid-order qualifying position by sprinting up the order to a sixth place finish and another welcome haul of championship points. This weekend presents the A1GP race winner with the challenge of learning yet another new race circuit, this time the anti-clockwise 4.06km Misano Circuit. Racing in Italy for the first time in his burgeoning career, McIntosh has time and again proved adept at educating himself to the demands of new tracks and the young Canadian will again have the benefit of testing at the circuit on Thursday and Friday prior to heading into Saturday morning’s Race 1 qualifying session.
Looking to build on his championship standing and crack the top-ten Sean said:
“It was great to get two strong finishes under my belt in Turkey. As a team we’ve always known we’ve been quick but you still have to go out there and prove it! Everything fell together in the last couple of races and hopefully we can continue to build on the momentum heading into this weekend’s races in Italy. This is our busiest period in the schedule with three race weekends in four weeks so it’s important for us to put all the pieces together. I’m looking forward to getting down to it on Thursday, learning the circuit then going for it in qualifying on Saturday morning. If we can get up there then we can aim for podium finishes.”
The weekend’s schedule of events kicks off on Thursday with a pair of two-hour test sessions before two more 45-minute sessions on Friday. Race 1 (21 laps) starts on Saturday, 15th July, at 3:30pm CET followed by Race 2 (29 laps) on Sunday, 16th July, at 1pm CET.
