It's back to the future for the Montreal ChampCar event

A few weeks ago, I posted about my attempt to purchase tickets for this summer's Montreal ChampCar race. In short, they laughed in my ear, which led me to think that Normand Legault's group might not have been planning to promote the heck out of the event.

It was about that time that I started to hear that former event promoter Alan Labrosse would be coming back onto the scene.

At first, Labrosse pretended not to know what I was talking about when I asked him about the rumour. But after a few minutes chatting, he all but confirmed what was happening when I ended up giving him every CASCAR phone number in my address book.

SPEEDTV's David Phillips went public with the story on Saturday at Long Beach....

LABROSSE IN, LEGAULT OUT
Alan Labrosse, who promoted the Montreal Molson Indy Champ Car races from 2002-2004, has taken over the promotion of this year's event from Normand Legault. Legault, long-time promoter of the Canadian Grand Prix at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, ran the Champ Car race there last year. The '05 Molson Indy attracted disappointing crowds and prompted widespread rumors Legault had deliberately "sabotaged" the race day attendance in the hopes of replacing the Champ Car event with either an Indy Racing League and/or NASCAR Busch Series event.
