Ex-Jordan Exec eyeing Penske's UK Racing Factory

By James Neilson

Trevor Carlin, whose Carlin team fielded Formula 1 driver Takuma Sato in Formula 3, has hinted he is looking to purchase Roger Penske's dormant factory in Poole, England.

Carlin had earlier revealed he was one of the team principles to put his name down for an application to run in the 2008 Formula 1 World Championship.

The cost of running a Formula 1 team looks set to be drastically reduced with yet another new technical package awaiting approval from teams for the beginning of the 2008 season.

Penske's Poole factory was the birthplace of multiple Indy 500 and title-winning racecars piloted by the likes of Rick Mears, Emerson Fittipaldi, Al Unser Jr. and Canada's own Paul Tracy.

Penske stopped building their own cars in 1999 after they struggled to compete with Lola and the now defunct Reynard in CHAMPCAR.
