UPDATE: SOS: Tim Phillips' announcement

SOS Insider: Breaking News - Tim Phillips Follow Up

As reported yesterday, Tim Phillips of Grand Island, New York has announced that he will no longer be behind the wheel of his popular #21 sprint car. The news has left everyone involved in northeast sprint car racing in shock and asking one simple question....why?

At the age of 44, Tim has been diagnosed with prostate cancer. In order to begin the treatment process he has now set his focus on the road to recovery rather than on the race track. "Because I am so young I have to take an aggressive approach to it" said Phillips. "All I know at this time is that I will be having surgery in the next few months" he added.

Piloting a sprint car around a close quarters dirt track takes nerves of steel, so you can imagine Tim will tackle this problem full speed ahead. In the meantime the friends, fans, competitors and staff of the Southern Ontario Sprints would like Tim to know that he is in our thoughts and that we are wishing him a successful battle and a speedy recovery!

(On behalf of everyone at Inside Track, I'd like to wish Tim the best of luck with his treatment, surgery and recovery. Four years ago, my wife underwent a bone marrow transplant to get rid of her Stage 4 Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. Today, you'd never know she was sick. And what about NASCAR GN West racer Austin Cameron (www.austincameron.com), who was back winning races not long after his cancer treatments. (Greg)
