DELAWARE: Ryan Litt to Make Homecoming, Debut this Friday

From Litt PR, May 17th, 2005

When the winged warriors of the Auto Value/Bumper to Bumper Super Sprints series (AVSS) invade London, Ontario’s Delaware Speedway this Friday night, May 20, local teenaged driver Ryan Litt will be on hand to defend his home turf. Not only will it be Ryan’s debut with the series, it will also be his first time racing a full size race car with a wing over his head.

Ryan, now a veteran of the USAC Ford Focus Midget wars, has turned his attention on the USAC National Sprint Car series this season. As a result, he normally competes exclusively on the south side of the 49th parallel these days, and this will be one of his only race dates in his native country all season. It is also by far the closest one to home for he and his team, as well as many of his friends and family, for many of whom this will be their only opportunity to see Ryan race all season.

Understandably, the 18 year old from Lyons, Ontario is excited about the event, but realistic at the same time. Ryan is a rookie in Sprint Cars, and this will be only the 5th event for the team with this car - a Beast chassis with a Claxton engine - and the first for it with a wing bolted on top.

Although he has not competed with the AVSS series, or in a winged sprint car before, Ryan does have experience racing at the Delaware Speedway, a track he last competed at during the 2002 season in the track’s Street Stock division, before moving to the USAC Ford Focus Midget Midwest division in 2003. In 2004, Ryan started the season off with a USAC Midwest Ford Focus Midget Car feature win at Anderson, Indiana.

He then reeled off 3 runner-up finishes in a row in the next three Midwest division events and led the points until midway through the season, when some bad luck and mechanical troubles slowed him up slightly. Ryan still finished the year with 14 top-ten finishes, 7 podium finishes, and third place in the Midwest points standings. He also took a feature win in the inaugural Ford Focus Midget Oklahoma region event at the Concordia Highbanks Speedway in Kansas last season, and made his debut in a USAC National Sprint Car at the Anderson Speedway in Indiana, and the Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway in Tennessee.

This season Ryan has his sights set competing in all of the USAC National Sprint Car series events on pavement, and has competed in selected Midget events over the winter during the indoor racing season.
Ryan and fellow London-area racer Mike Ling will both be at Delaware this Friday night looking to defend home turf, so come out and support them! Spectator gates open at 6pm and tickets are $20 for Adults, $13 for Youth and Seniors, $6 for Children, and kids 5 and under get in free!
