NICK SCHAEFER CAPTURES SCHOOL BUS FIGURE 8 RACE WIN AT HOLLAND

Courtesy Holland Speedway

Holland, NY - Nick Schaefer of Buffalo, NY made a last turn pass count for $1,000, as he scored the lucrative win in the headlining School Bus Figure 8 race at Holland Speedway's Crash-A-Rama on Saturday evening. Bill Mauerman of Hamburg, NY took his second Hornet win of the season in an exciting finish, while Noreen Koningisor of Cattaraugus, NY earned her first career win in the Queen Bee main.

Fourteen school buses took the starting green flag in the 12 lap race, and Jason Wozniak, who was the winner of the fall, 2004 School Bus Figure 8 race, looked like he was going to make it two in a row, as he moved out to a wide lead by the mid point of the event. However, Wozniak's bus would shred a tire on the tenth lap, and Jason tried gamely to nurse the ill-handling bus home to the checkers. Wozniak's misfortune was a big break for Schaefer, who reeled in Wozniak, drawing to the rear bumper of the leader going into the final turns. Wozniak tried to hold off Schaefer, but contact between the two got Wozniak out of shape, and Schaefer was able to race on by to take the victory.

In the 30 lap 4-cylinder Hornet main, Bill Mauerman and Bob Marzec traded the lead four times over the final six laps, with Mauerman able to keep his Biggs Auto Recovery/Artistic Imprints ride out in front over the final go-round for the win. Marzec finished as close second, with teen-aged pilot Tyler Roth, who led laps at the mid-point of the race, claiming third.

Noreen Koningisor motored her mount by Mae Urban for the top spot on lap 6 of the 20 lap Queen Bee main and never looked back, holding a five car length lead over Michelle Roberts at the checkered flag of the caution-free race. Laura Yandricha finished third.

In other Crash-A-Rama events, Scott Espinosa of Buffalo won a crazy 12 lap, 38 car Flagpole race, Don Roesch of Cheektowaga, NY captured the 5 lap Backwards Race, and the team of Greg Urban and Steve Greenauer were victorious in the Blindfold Race (Urban, the driver, was blindfolded, while Greenauer, the passenger, gave driving directions). A pair of $1,000 to win demolition derbies was also contested, with Tim Haniszewski, Jr. of Lancaster, NY capturing the Mini Van demo, and Jim Macken of Buffalo scoring the victory in the compact car demo.

RESULTS SUMMARY - 6/11/05:

HORNETS - 30 laps: BILL MAUERMAN

QUEEN BEES - 20 laps: NOREEN KONINGISOR
