June 14, 2005 – Organizers of the inaugural West Edmonton Mall Grand Prix of Edmonton announced today that triple Grammy Award winners, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, will close out Grand Prix weekend with a free concert at Finning International Speedway.

One of country music’s most beloved and enduring groups, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band’s list of hits include Will the Circle Be Unbroken, Mr. Bojangles, Make a Little Magic, Fishin in the Dark , Modern Day Romance and Stand a Little Rain.

“This a real thrill for us,” said Greg Macdonald, president and general manager of the West Edmonton Mall Grand Prix of Edmonton. “The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band is an absolute legend and has been a key player in the country music industry for 40 years now. We are very proud to be able to provide spectators at the West Edmonton Mall Grand Prix of Edmonton with the opportunity to close out their weekend with a great concert. It’s going to be quite a party.”

The free concert will cap off what promises to be an exceptional Grand Prix weekend. All race ticket holders can access the concert site on the Speedway grounds.

“This is one more exciting feature to this very first West Edmonton Mall Grand Prix of Edmonton,” continued Macdonald. “We are committed to staging a first-class event that showcases the very best Edmonton has to offer. Western Canada has its own unique personality and we are proud to offer ticket holders and the entire Champ Car community a true Alberta experience. To borrow a phrase from the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, we’re going to make a little magic before the night is through.”

The West Edmonton Mall Grand Prix of Edmonton will take place from July 15 to 17 at Finning International Speedway, located at Edmonton City Centre Airport. A 1.96-mile temporary road course is being constructed using the airport’s runway network.

The Bridgestone Presents the Champ Car World Series Powered by Ford features Canadian racing stars Paul Tracy and Alex Tagliani, as well as rookie sensation Andrew Ranger. Also competing is 2004 Series Champion Sebastien Bourdais who drives for Newman Haas Racing, co-owned by legendary film star, Paul Newman.
