CASCAR SUPER SERIES: Stafford St-Eustache report

Todd Lewis, TL Sports & Entertainment

June 5, 2005 - After working hard for two weeks to repair the #42 LE Walker Transport Chevrolet from the opening race of the CASCAR Super Series, Sean Stafford and the Mid America Motorsports team were ready for a solid outing in round number two at the Autodrome St. Eustache.

CASCAR has raced here many times but it was the first visit to the very flat but very fast 4/10th of a mile oval just north of Montreal. "It's a pretty tough track to get around" concluded the driver after the practice session. "You want to go deeper and deeper into the corners but you can't, I'm getting it though". With only one short practice session before qualifying Sean Stafford was able to secure a 13th starting spot on the grid.

With 25 cars traveling at great speed on this small a track it's easy to see how quickly trouble can arise. The key is to stay out of the trouble and finish all 200 laps. That's the mission the team set out with. Sean and the LE Walker Chevy accomplished that goal.

Caution periods came early and often with a total of ten on the night. "It's almost inevitable that you'll hit somebody" stated Sean. "I just tried to stay away from guys that were too aggressive and hit my spots. I was fighting the handling just a bit and got into it with another car and that knocked the toe out, but strangely the car actually felt a little better".

As the race continued and damaged lap cars started to be even more of an issue it was imperative that Sean continue to focus on the goal of finishing. With just about everyone, including some of the leaders bumping into each other in the closing stages, Sean was able to finish the 200 lap race on the lead lap with a 13th place finish. "For this team to come up with that finish here is great" claimed Stafford afterwards. "They worked really hard, fixed a ball joint problem after practice and kept me pumped up during the race; it was a really good day for the LE Walker team".
