WEEDSPORT, N.Y. (May 10) – Officials at Delaware Int'l Speedway and the
DIRT MotorSports™ organization recently reached a mutual agreement to postpone the Advance Auto Parts Modified Super DIRT Series event scheduled for Thursday, May 26 at the popular Delmar oval. A new date will be announced upon confirmation.
"With the DIRT rules being enforced so well, it's unfair for both the touring drivers and our own weekly teams to keep the May date at this time," remarked Delaware promoter Charlie Cathell. "Our Modified cars are not yet 100% in line with the current DIRT rule book which needs to be followed to have a successful show. And the traveling teams shouldn't have to compromise their program or it would dilute the value of what this series is all about."
Under the direction of Cathell, the 1999 Auto Racing Promoter of the Year, Delaware has renewed its affiliation with DIRT MotorSports™ for the first time in seven years. While an Advance Auto Parts Super DIRT Series event was held last August, Bobby Wilkins earned the last DIRT big-block Modified points championship at the storied Delmar half-miler in 1998. Ironically, Billy Decker captured both Advance Auto SDS races held in 2004 and '98; Danny Johnson (1996) and Jack Johnson ('97) won the initial "North vs. South Shootout" title events.
"It's very important to remain consistent with our teams and build on what we've done so far with the Advance Auto Series," noted DIRT MotorSports™ Chief Operating Officer Bobby Hartslief. "Charlie is truly a team player and he fully understands that a level playing field must be maintained no matter where the race. We'll be talking again in the coming week and hopefully iron out a new date if it's determined to be feasible for both the track and the tour."
The next stop for the big-block Modifieds is at The Dirt Track @ Lowe's Motor Speedway for the Ferris Commercial Mowers presents the Eckerd 75 on May 25 before closing out the Memorial Day holiday with an Advance Auto Parts Super DIRT Series race at Cayuga County Fair (NY) Speedway on May 29.
Five-time overall Hoosier Tire-Sunoco Race Fuels Mr. DIRT champion Brett Hearn opened the Advance Auto Part Modified Super DIRT Series with a big-block win in the 25th DIRT Challenge Cup at Rolling Wheels (NY) Raceway on May 1. Hearn will accompany fellow 'Elite 11' drivers Pat Ward, Gary Tomkins, Matt Sheppard, Billy Decker, Chad Brachmann, Vic Coffey, Steve Paine, Danny Johnson, Stewart Friesen and Tim Fuller to Lowe's Dirt Track in Concord, N.C. for the Wednesday night showdown which is once again expected to attract all the top open-wheel racers from around the Northeast to NASCAR's backyard.
The DIRT MotorSports™ Advance Auto Parts Modified Series is brought to fans across the Northeast by several sponsors and partners, including series sponsors Advance Auto Parts, Dynomax Performance Exhaust, Hoosier Racing Tire and Sunoco Race Fuels. Promotional Partners include Stacker 2®, AMB i.t., RACEceiver and Zippo Lighters and the contingency sponsors are DART Machinery, Bicknell Racing Products, Bilstein Shocks, MSD Ignitions and Wrisco Industries.
