WOO: Styres Rolls The Dice With The Outlaws

The 'Ohsweken Flyer' Glenn Styres flew west this past week to run with the World of Outlaws in Las Vegas. It was Glenn's first attempt at competing with the top sprint car circuit in the world. With their first taste of 410 racing coming just a month earlier in Florida it was a big test for the Styres Racing Team.

"It?s a dream come true for me, I have been wanting to do this for years" said Styres prior to heading to Las Vegas. "We were going to go, then we weren?t going to go. Finally we just decided to do it." he added. Team crew chief Kevin Loveys and fellow competitor Jack Pillon made the 40-plus hour trip using the Pillon Racing hauler. Their many hours spent on the road would not be a wasted effort.

It would be on night one of the two night event where Glenn would have his best showing. After timing in 28th and finishing 9th in his heat race, Styres would show his muscle in the B-Main. The #0 ESSO ride found itself in the A-Main by virtue of a solid 4th place finish in the B-Main. While Kraig Kinser would go on to win the A-Main Glenn would end up a respectable 20th place ahead of World of Outlaw veterans, Sammy Swindell and Brooke Tatnell.

The second evening of racing wouldn't be quite as successful for the Styres Racing Team. While they managed a better qualifying effort, timing in 17th, their heat and B-Main performances were not good enough to make the big show. Glenn would finish 7th in his heat and 9th in the B-Main. Donny Schatz, of Fargo North Dakota, would claim the victory in the A-Main.

"Las Vegas was amazing, and alot of fun." Said Styres who plans to run with the Outlaws in New York State this summer. The #0 ESSO car will compete full time once again with the Southern Ontario Sprints in 2005 while competing in special events throughout the year with various other sprint car series across North America.
