NEWS: Lucas Oil Backs Brighton Speedway

BRIGHTON, ON – Lucas Oil Products announced today that they would take a new step towards supporting Canadian Motorsports by sponsoring the Brighton Speedway Points Fund. This latest contribution is just one of many generous ventures in sponsoring grass roots racing and will be greatly appreciated by the Brighton Speedway and their drivers.

Brighton Speedway has seen tremendous growth in its classes this year and this sponsorship along with the funds that are raised through out the season will contribute to the biggest points fund purse ever at the end of the season. "Points funds are important to both the drivers and the speedway" says Mark Rinaldi, Promoter of the Brighton Speedway.

"Points funds are used to increase the champions winnings of each class at the end of the season, creating a more dynamic and exciting purpose to racing. It encourages drivers to show up every week and race not only for the single race checker but to battle for every point they can get en route to the ultimate goal of a championship."

Lucas Oil has made a strong commitment to local racing in Canada. This however is their first major sponsorship of a dirt racetrack in Ontario. Brighton Speedway's relationship with Lucas Oil began last season when they sponsored the very successful Labour Day Classic Weekend.

"When we originally contacted Lucas it didn't look very positive, they had just committed thousands of dollars to the Lucas Oil Products Weekend Warrior Series among the Ontario paved tracks and Don Baker had indicated the budget was spent " says Rinaldi. After a couple of months of talks Lucas Oil has made the commitment to build on the strong relationship that was formed last year on Labour Day. Lucas Oil decided that an investment in the Brighton Speedway provides them an excellent opportunity to promote their product to the loyal fan base and supportive drivers of this dirt racetrack.

On behalf of Lucas Oil Products Canada and Don Baker, Vice President and Director, "we are very happy to be able to continue the forward movement of grass roots racing in Canada with the track sponsorship of Brighton Speedway and the event sponsorship for the Labour Day Classic Weekend at the track in September. The 2005 race season not only looks great for the fans and racers but also should draw the attention of corporate Canada to the value of local racing and it's home town hero’s."

This latest announcement adds to the excitement of the upcoming season at Brighton Speedway where every class except will be looking for a new champion as the defending title holders have moved on. The 2004 Novice Champ, Tim Kerr is making the leap to Brighton Speedway’s top class with a brand new Canadian Modified.

Caley Weese, the reigning Comp 4 Champ is building a Pro Stock as she makes the switch from a front wheel drive Honda to the V8 powered Chevy Monte Carlo. Dan Ferguson, the current Canadian Modified Class Champ is moving up to race in the DIRT Sportsman Modified at tracks throughout southern Ontario and upstate New York. Grant Fitzpatrick will be the only returning champ competing in the ProStock division for his third season

“The number of inquiries and the current rate of registration indicates to us that we could see 20 to 25 cars in 3 of the 4 classes.” stated Rinaldi. “This car count, combined with the special events and Coca Cola Kids Club activities will make the 2005 season at Brighton Speedway one of the best yet. We are really looking forward to it.” Family affordability and variety of entertainment make the Brighton Speedway the place to be on a Saturday night in Northumberland County.

The first race event is scheduled for April 30th, 2005 when the stock cars hit the track for opening night. Admission for opening night will be only $2.00 with a non-perishable food donation that will support local food banks.
