Report: NASCAR favours Mosport

I know this post is a few days old, but I have just been given permission to post here. I will be more current on future posts.

Report: NASCAR favours Mosport

TSN.ca Staff
3/24/2005

TSN.ca - Mosport International Raceway in Bowmanville, Ontario, is the leading candidate to land a NASCAR stock car race as soon as 2006, according to a report in the Toronto Sun.

The Sunreported that a group of NASCAR executives met Tuesday in Daytona Beach, Florida., to map out an expansion strategy. Part of that strategy will include a meeting with Myles Brandt, president and general manager of Mosport.

Brandt said Wednesday he already has had meetings with NASCAR officials about Mosport. He told the newspaper that NASCAR bosses are serious about a race at his four-kilometre road course.

"They have actually already been to Mosport," Brandt told the Sun. "And within the next 30 to 90 days they are going to be back to take another look at the track."
The Sun report says Mosport has moved ahead of Montreal's Circuit Gilles Villeneuve because of its ability to host races from the Nextel Cup, Busch Grand National or Craftsman Truck series.

The contract between promoter Normand Legault and the city of Montreal, which owns Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, limits its use to twice a year - once for the Canadian Grand Prix and once for the Champ Car Molson Indy Montreal.

While speculation has been rampant that Legault would dump Champ Car in favour of a NASCAR Nextel Cup race, he might not do so for a Busch or Craftsman Truck race.
NASCAR made its first foray outside of continental U.S. this season when the Busch series raced in Mexico City.

Tracy to NASCAR?

TSN.ca - Auto Racing - Canada's Sports Leader: "According to a report in the Toronto Sun, this year's edition of the Toronto Molson Indy could very well be Paul Tracy's swan song in the Champ Car World Series."

From a link on TSN.CA.....

More NASCAR talk from Paul Tracy

The radio buzz on the sportscasts this morning was about Paul Tracy talking about making the switch to NASCAR for 2006. The Champ Car driver, who was originally from West Hill (Scarborough), says he would like to be part of a NASCAR race in Canada.

The snowball continues to grow....

LUCAS OIL WWS: 72 points nights in 2005

MISSISSAUGA, ON – When the seven participating speedways in the Lucas Oil Weekend Warrior Series finally put out their schedules for 2005, an available 72 events were presented as point earning races for Limited Late Model and Late Model drivers in Ontario participating in the WWS program.

Series administrator Joshua Paxton set up the aggregate schedule from the participating Lucas Oil WWS tracks indicating a grand total of 72 dates when at least one of the two premiere divisions is running.

He told the promoters, “it adds up to 38 dates when the Late Models are running at Kawartha, Delaware and Lucas Oil Flamboro Speedways, and 34 dates when the Limited Late Models are running at Mosport, Barrie, Peterborough and Sunset Speedways.”

He also pointed out, there are many nights when two or more tracks are running the same division, but when you start the schedule in April and end it in October, there are a lot of available nights for drivers to compete and accumulate points towards the WWS standings.”

Promoters from several of the tracks asked about a “best of” total for WWS points, not wanting to force drivers to try to make more than 30 complete shows.

After much discussion, it was decided by the series administrators, Josh and Gerry Paxton, that they would stick to the original plan and allow drivers to accumulate points for every night they chose to compete.

Administrator Gerry Paxton said, “The original goal of this series, as clearly stated in the proposal we originally submitted to each track, was to support and build grassroots racing. We have listened to the opinions and concerns of promoters and drivers, but we are focused on rewarding the competitors who race as often as they get the chance. While we recognize the demands of family, and hope the drivers do to, the Lucas Oil WWS is simply providing an opportunity for drivers to accumulate points by racing, and be rewarded in being a part of grassroots racing.”

Paxton also expects many drivers to compete at their home tracks and maybe take in one or two invitational events at other tracks as a “full season”, but the optimum number of races will ultimately be decided by the racers, not by the Lucas Oil Weekend Warrior Series.

The Lucas Oil Weekend Warrior Series has guaranteed a total bonus point fund of more than 100-thousand dollars to the top 40 Limited Late Model and Late Model drivers in Ontario for 2005, to be awarded for their participation in supporting grassroots racing.

MULTIMATIC: Fontana Preview

Both Ford Racing Technologies Multimatic Motorsports Mustang FR500C entries are now running equal second in the 2005 Grand-Am Cup Championship following the announcement of revised results from the recent round in Santo Domingo.

A mid-race power failure in the Dominican Republic disrupted the computer timing and scoring system, forcing race officials to manually score the remainder of the race.

Maxwell and Empringham were originally credited with 2nd place in the #55 car with Jeannette and Gue in 4th. However a post-race audit placed the #55 Mustang a lap in arrears, putting them back to 9th. Jeannette and Gue were elevated to second place.

The four factory Ford Mustang drivers all now have a total of 54 points - only four points behind the championship leading BMW M3 duo of Rob Finlay and Michael McDowell.

Multimatic Motorsports now heads to California Speedway in Fontana near Los Angeles this weekend for round three of the 2005 championship, eager to build upon the strong start to the season by both cars.

"To have both Mustangs running equal second in the championship is a great result for this year and a great reward for all the hard work put in by everybody at Multimatic Motorsports and Ford Racing Technologies," Multimatic Vice President and team Technical Director, Larry Holt said.

"The target for Multimatic Motorsports is to now challenge for our first race win of 2005. Both cars have a second place to their credit, but getting a couple of race wins under our belt along with some consistent points scoring performances will be perfect for our championship changes.

"But the competition is tough - not only from the other manufacturers, but from the Mustang FR500C customer entries."

Ford Racing Technology embarked on this program to return the Mustang to the race track, and unveiled the new Mustang FR500C racer at the Specialty Equipment Manufacturer's Association Show in Las Vegas in November last year. Ford Racing worked closely with Multimatic on the design, development, and build of the race car to Grand-Am specification.

Ford Racing Performance Parts will offer the Mustang FR500C in Grand-Am Cup specification, as well as all the racing components necessary for race team support and for those enthusiasts interested in enhancing their own Mustangs.

In conjunction with the debut season of the new Mustang FR500C, Multimatic Motorsports has launched a new web site to commemorate the return to the track by the Ford muscle-car. The site is located at www.multimaticmotorsports.com/mustang/ and features driver profiles, race news, photo galleries and Multimatic Motorsports and Mustang history.

MERRITTVILLE: New Engine Package Creates Battle of Ages

THOROLD, ON – As the big leagues of NASCAR Racing begin to gain momentum, local DIRT stock car racers are starting to gear up for their first point race of the new season at Merrittville Speedway.

The historic d-shaped oval will crank up it’s 54th consecutive season Saturday April 30th.

Race fans attending Dirt Weekly Racing Series Events at Merrittville Speedway throughout the 2005 season will see a large number of rookies entering competition through all divisions in addition to several veterans making returns to the Thorold track.

“Our experiment last season with the GM Crate Engine in our Sportsmen Division and an Aluminum Spec Cylinder Head in the 358 Modifieds ,” relates Nancy Bicknell, adding “the two cost-cutting combinations is already bringing new and familiar faces to each division … race fans can look forward to new talent in all classes though.”

While three of the newest Sportsmen competitors have a history in Karting on Merrittville’s infield track, two are making the move to open wheel racing from the Hoosier Stocks.

Alan Sleight was one of many young up and coming drivers that tested a Bicknell Racing Products racer in the Sportsmen Division – a BRP Chassis loaned by Central New York competitor Gary Tompkins that sported a GM Crate Engine that has been accepted circuit-wide as an option for 2005 for use at Dirt Northeast member tracks.

Sleight’s return to Merrittville comes after several years away from his dirt racing roots. Sleight’s last racing was in a Cup Lite Car at asphalt tracks such as Delaware Speedway. Prior to that the St. Catharines driver had competed in Tuesday Night Kart Racing at Merrittville.

2004 Auto FX Graphics Original Pizza Logs Junior Restricted Light Champion Mat Williamson is preparing for double duty in 2005 – continuing Karting while adding a Sportsmen Car and Saturday nights to his schedule.

A second generation driver is set to return a familiar name to Saturday Nights in 2005 having teamed up with Peninsula Press Motorsports for his initial Sportsmen Season.

Anthony Rizzardo – nephew of former Modified competitor Danny Rizzardo – will give up Tuesday Night Karts for his new Saturday Night venture into open wheel racing. Also joining the Sportsmen division in 2005 are two veteran Hoosier Stock competitors – Greg Ayers and Dave Dykstra.

These new drivers and veterans alike should provide quite an entertaining mix as the division looks for a new champion in 2005.

2004 Merrittville Sportsmen Champion Adam Ferri has announced plans to run for Rookie of the Year honors in the L. St. Amand 358 Modified Division in 2005.

Following Ferri to the premier 358 division are Boyd MacTavish and Greg Panunte who have competed in the class in previous seasons.

Another driver making a return to regular competition in 2005 is fan favorite Randy Chrysler who is planning a return to Saturday Night action at the Thorold track after competing in Central New York in recent years. Another popular veteran also returning to the premier division this season is Ken Cosgrove. Cosgrove is set to return after a three year absence from the sport.

The Dwarf Car Division also looks to have several rookies in the field this season with kart veteran Paul Klager joining the class in 2005, Klager competed last season as a rookie in the 4 Cylinder Division running to the runner-up spot in points after many seasons racing karts Tuesday Nights.

Joining Klager are first time competitors Tim Tallman, Owen Steele, Josh Sliter, Adam Murphy and Bruce Demers who declared their intentions at a recent Driver’s Meeting. Demers will make the trip to Merrittville from Windsor to race his new car.

With Rob Knapp making his return back to the Sportsmen division also, his younger brother Kevin is one of the Hoosier Stock Rookie crop expected to join that division this season. The younger Knapp will race his older brother’s feature winning car.

A driver making a return that needs no introduction is 2003 Hoosier Stock Point Champion Dolf McCready. After sitting out last season to assist first time driver Danielle Landry launch her career the veteran is set to return to regular competition in 2005. Another former champion – Jeff Dayman is also set to return to the Hoosier Stock ranks this season

When you size up the competition you begin to see the age differnce and generation gaps that have formed through all divisions. On the one side you have Modified veterans like Pete Bicknell, Scott Wood, Brian Stevens, Fred Carleton, Paul Ashton or Sportsmen veteran Bill Willard mixed in the field with some of the rookie drivers. These and other veterans individually have in some cases more years racing experience than some of the young up and coming drivers have been alive.

The battle of the old guard versus the young guns through all divisions will create even stronger competition and great racing action for the race fan.

Merrittville Speedway’s race fans and teams alike will see a new Merrittville when Practice Day takes place Saturday April 23rd.

Last fall, Ed MacPherson Construction and Speedway Officials put down more than 200 loads of new clay – shared between the Stock Car and Kart Tracks.

PSL & MAXTER ENGINES: 10 podiums in 2 races

The Canadian based PSL Karting Team shop just got back from a three week trip. The team was racing in Oklahoma at the Stars Race of The Americas. A week later, they were in Jacksonville for the last round of the Florida Winter Tour.

In Oklahoma, the team came back with a big win in 80cc shifter. Dominating from qualification to the Sunday final, Cody Joly picked up the highest honnor. Starting in the 15th position during the final JICA race Cody Joly was very faston is CRG / PSL Maxter earning the fastest lap while moving up to 2nd place.

Unlucky he was DQ'd in tech for a spark plug washer. ICC driver Jan Velez Walter was unlucky. Starting 35th position in the final he moved up to 13th position, weaving his way through the field. With only two laps to go disaster struck again when he crashed into another pile-up, which was the end of the day for him and the team got on the road for Jacksonville Florida.

KARTING: Grand Prix of Barrie Cancelled for 2005

BARRIE, ON - The annual Grand Prix of Barrie event, tentatively scheduled in 2005 for June 22-24th, will not be taking place this year.

Event Chairman Eric Lehner reports that, “New criteria set out by city council for the 2005 year during a recent in-camera session appears to have modified the 2004 operating model. The event organizer cannot respond with confidence that the event this year would achieve the same high standard set in previous years, without more time to make modifications.”

He went on to state that it is possible that with more time to consider the situation the annual Grand Prix of Barrie may resume in 2006.

The free-admission event has a large following in the Simcoe region and beyond, and has become known in motorsports circles as the “Monaco of Kart Racing” for the quality of sanctioned races, the picturesque setting, the festival atmosphere throughout the grounds and the high standard of associated exhibits, displays and demonstrations.

NASCAR: Pyne talks more about a NASCAR race in Canada

Thanks to Greasemonkey for passing this along....

TSN.ca - Auto Racing - NASCAR coming to Toronto or Montreal?: "According to a report in the Toronto Star, NASCAR is considering Toronto and Montreal as race sites.

''We'll visit different places in Canada in the next 30 to 90 days to see what opportunities exist,'' NASCAR chief operating officer George Pyne told the Winston-Salem Journal for a story published Monday. ''The two markets are Toronto and Montreal. Where within those markets? Obviously it will be a road course. But where, we don't have an answer.''"

SPEED WC GT: Penfold impresses in Sebring debut

With files from No.Dot Marketing
SEBRING, FL – Alex Penfold had a strong first outing in the Pfaff Porsche/AXA Financial Porsche during last Friday’s SPEED World Challenge GT event in Sebring, FL, finishing 13th overall in a field of 31 cars.

Driving the Jon Groom Racing 2000 Porsche GT3 Cup Car, Penfold managed to set the eighth-fastest time in official practice on Wednesday and that proved to be good in more ways than one. As well as surprising a lot of people with his performance, Penfold’s eighth-place time became his starting position as the rains hit on Thursday, making the track dangerous and canceling qualifying. This also allowed the team time to make the changes to the suspension that was needed to improve the handling.

Starting behind teammate Robin Liddell of Scotland, Penfold was just a little nervous about his first start in the big league, but he handled everything well. Liddell slowed on the start and Penfold went past him on the inside and moved up to fifth place by the middle of the first lap.

Then reality set in.

“The changes the team made had gone a little too far, and I quickly found out that I had a massive understeer,” Penfold said. “I could not accelerate in the corners and I was losing a lot of speed as a result. And this is not a track where you can afford to lose corner speed because of the high speed sections and the long straights!”

Soon he was caught and passed by other cars and he battled on to try to stay in the running. By the end he had dropped to 13th place, and second amongst Rookies.

“The team did an excellent job getting my car ready and it was a good result for my first race, but I know I could have placed better, so I am not totally satisfied,” he said. “We’ll see what we can do in St. Petersburg in two weeks time.”

Sad anniversary: Scott Fraser

I was just reminded, by Joan Roue, that March 21 is the first anniversary of the passing of Maritime stock car star Scott Fraser. I still can't believe it... and time sure does fly.

Scott was an amazing talent and a real gentleman. There is something interesting going on 'down east' to keep his memory alive. Shawn Turple and his team have joined with Frank Fraser (Scott's dad) to field a team for the entire CARQUEST Pro Stock Tour.

I'm just editing a story on this for our next issue. Thanks to Joan for the heads up.

ALMS: KUMHO Wins in ALMS Debut at Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring

With files from ALMS
SEBRING, FL – KUMHO captured the LMP2 class win at the 53rd running of the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring, held March 19 at Sebring International Raceway in Florida.

Teamed with defending class champion Miracle Motorsports and drivers Jeff Bucknum, Ian James and Chris McMurry, KUMHO’s new tires for Miracle’s Courage C-65 prototype performed flawlessly, helping the team win Sebring for the second straight year and giving KUMHO a win in its first American Le Mans Series (ALMS) race.

“The tires performed as they were intended to,” said KUMHO Motorsports Manager Rudy Consolacion. “The only issue we had was two punctures caused by debris. Fortunately they both happened at the same time and in a great location, just before the pit entrance, and Ian was able to duck into the pits for a tire change without losing much time and without damaging the car.

“We signed a contract with Miracle at the end of December, so our development schedule has been extremely compressed,” noted Consolacion. “In two months we built molds and conducted two tests with four different compounds and constructions. We were very pleased with how the tires performed and how they held up.”

The Miracle team ran double stints on the tires, and one set ran two-and-one-half stints-72 laps, nearly 270 miles at speeds up to 180 mph. When the crew finally pulled the tires off the car, Miracle tire engineer Jerry Burns said “The tires look good, real good. We could do another stint on them.”

Burns, who’s been involved in motorsports as a tire engineer since 1966, is still having fun. “I’m enjoying working with the KUMHO guys,” he said. “It’s fun to work with an up-and-coming team.”

“A lot of people wondered what the heck we were doing switching from a ‘known’ tire to KUMHO because they were new to the series,” said driver Chris McMurry after the race. “But the tires were awesome.”

“The biggest change in the car from last year is the tire manufacturer,” said Ian James, who drove to a class championship with Miracle in 2004. “KUMHO has done a great job in a very short amount of time.”

“We feel great working with KUMHO,” said Jeff Bucknum. “We were confident before the race because we knew they would do the job. The tires performed great and were very drivable the whole time.”

After Thursday’s qualifying session was cancelled due to heavy rain, the cars were gridded according to their practice times. Bucknum’s best lap of 1:54.792 put the Miracle car sixth on the grid overall and second in class. He bested that time during the race with a lap time of 1:54.502, good for the seventh fastest lap time of the race.

The Miracle car completed 311 laps of the 3.7 mile circuit, covering a total of 1,150.7 miles in 12 hours. The team finished the race in 12th position overall in the 38-car field. The car spent nearly 40 minutes in the pits making unexpected repairs on a broken alternator and a loose steering column. Without those problems, the team would have completed roughly another 20 laps, which would have placed the car sixth overall.

ALMS: Sebring - Audi 1-2, Aston beats Corvette!

By Gary Horrocks
SEBRING, FL – It’s six years in a row for Audi at Sebring, as Tom Kristensen, Marco Werner and JJ Lehto combined to win the 12-hour race by a margin of just over six seconds ahead of their R8-driving teammates. The Champion Audis start off their final year of racing with yet another strong effort.

In GT1, the new Corvette C6-R’s had the pace, but they each had a problem, allowing the new Aston Martin DBR9 to win its maiden race. Victory went to David Brabham, Darren Turner and Stephane Ortelli.

The #3 Corvette was the first to hit trouble, when a front brake disc exploded while at speed, sending Johnny O’Connell into the wall, causing heavy damage. O’Connell, teamed as usual with Ron Fellows and Max Papis, recovered to finish second in class, one lap back.

The second factory Corvette rebounded from heavy damage, sustained by a skirmish while in traffic. They inherited third in the last few minutes of the race when the ACEMCO Saleen S7-Rwas retired due to excessive oil leakage.

P2 was won by Miracle Motorsports in their Kuhmo tire-shod Courage. It finished 10th overall and was the only car in class left running at the end. GT2 saw a fitting end to the weekend, as the Petersen/White Lightning Porsche 911 RSR capped off a dominant performance with a seven-lap class victory, finishing seventh overall.

A more detailed report will appear in the next issue of Inside Track Motorsport News.

Great weekend of racing!!

Wow. What a great weekend for racing. While it was disappointing that Ron Fellows and the other Canadians didn't win at Sebring, several of them were in the hunt. The overall victory was a matter of seconds - and not laps or minutes - which was very exciting.

The Atlanta Cup race was a thriller, too. Carl Edwards dirt-tracked his way around Jimmie Johnson to nose ahead for the win out of turn 4. The two bumped a bit but it was a clean and exciting conclusion to a great race. Edwards is extremely likeable and kudos to Johnson for being a good sport about things!

The F1 race in Malaysia was less dull than usual... in fact, it was almost exciting at times... so that means there's probably a rule change on the way, because God knows, there's a law against having exciting F1 races.

Had to laugh when both Honda BAR engines went kaboom in the first laps. Their stunt of parking their cars on the last lap of the first race - so that they could get around the 2-race engine rules - blew up in their faces... literally.

And give a shout out to Bridgestone for supplying sub-par tires to Ferrari and Michael Schumacher, who was a backmarker for the second race in a row. If Bridgestone continues to miss the mark, we might actually have a fun F1 season for a change. But again... isn't there a law against that?

And... poor Jacques. The great Karnac predicts the following headline: "Villeneuve slams... the gravel". Haven't heard the excuses yet, but I'm sure they'll come. Next stop: Minardi.

Finally, Dean McNulty of the Toronto Sun had a really good story about Scott Maxwell in Sunday's automotive section. It sounds like Maxwell really clicked with Matt Kenseth and the other Roush Cup guys during the Rolex 24 at Daytona and has found himself a job (another one) as the team's road course coach... sort of like what Fellows is doing with DEI. Good for Scott and thanks to Dean for the story. I can't find it online as Dean's stories don't go past last October on the Sun site... so if anyone else can track it down, I'd appreciate it.

STAR MAZDA: Hinchcliffe fifth in Sebring opener

SEBRING, FL - Sunny skies returned to central Florida on Friday and fortune shown on Raphael Matos, who lead wire-to-wire to claim victory in the opening round of the Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear today at Sebring International Raceway as part of the 53rd Annual 12 Hours of Sebring activities. Joining Matos on the podium for the first of twelve rounds were Matt Jaskol and Graham Rahal.

Matos, of Belo Horizonte, Brazil, started on the pole position for today's 20-lap event based on his best practice times of the weekend after qualifying was washed out by Thursday's heavy storms, but proved that he belonged out front, pulling away to a five second victory over the Las Vegas, NV, native Jaskol. "I have to give all the credit to the team this weekend," Matos said afterwards. "Mylon Stockton and Rick Cameron and the rest of the Ocean Tomo Racing crew worked really hard this offseason to put this program together and to finish in front of a field this deep is a great way to start the season. I also hope this will help me as I work to find the budget to complete the entire season."

Jaskol, driving the #70 Hearn Motorsports Mazda used by Matos last season, set the fast lap of the race at 2:00.768 and hopes this podium finish will put his sponsorship hunt into overdrive. "Richie Hearn took a chance this weekend to put a kid with no money into the car, hoping for the results, but knowing if something happened I probably couldn't pay him back so it feels great to give a podium to him to start the season," Jaskol commented. "On one hand I'm happy to have finished so high in a field so deep but on the other hand I know we had a fast car and as the race progressed we could match Matos speed. I was hoping for a caution, talking to myself as the laps wound down to keep pushing a little deeper each lap but we couldn't close the gap he had built up earlier."

Also pleased with his podium finish was Graham Rahal in the Bobby Rahal Automotive Group sponsored Andersen Walko prepared Mazda. Looking at a two year program of development in the series, the 16 year old son of former IndyCar champion Bobby Rahal didn't expect to find himself on the podium this soon. "Looking at the field last season I didn't think a podium would be possible this year, but after preseason testing with Andersen Walko Racing and the early practice sessions this week I was fast and I knew I could run up front," Rahal said. "We have four great drivers under our tent and we all work really well together so I think we'll have a great season."

Carving his way through the field to a fourth place finish was former series champion, and winner of the 2004 season finale, Luis Schiavo. Starting twelfth after battling problems in the practice sessions, Schiavo found his rhythm early in the event, jumping up to eighth after two laps and then meticulously working his way up to fourth in the HASA Pool Products/UltraLub/Energy Freight Mazda. "We started the weekend well on the first day of testing but had some problems on Wednesday when the starting positions were determined," Schiavo explained. "I knew I'd have a great car in the race thanks to my engineer Remy and when the green flag fell I just started moving forward."

Rounding out the top five was another series rookie, James Hinchcliffe, in NOCO/Mobil1 Mazda prepared by new series entrants AIM Autosport. Making his first appearance in the series, as well as his first appearance to Sebring International Raceway, the Oakville, Ontario, Canada native was pleased to come away with a top five finish. "Being new to the series and not having raced against many of these drivers I might have been a bit too cautious at the start, but in the end we finished the weekend with a lot of points," Hinchcliffe said. "With qualifying for our event with the Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal being based on points it is important to bring the car home as high as possible each weekend and the AIM autosport crew did a great job all weekend."

Today's event will be broadcast on Speed Channel on Sunday, April 24th at 11:00 AM Eastern Standard Time. Round Two of the Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear will be held at Road Atlanta on April 15-17 for the Grand Prix of Atlanta.

NEWS: Lucas Oil Backs Brighton Speedway

BRIGHTON, ON – Lucas Oil Products announced today that they would take a new step towards supporting Canadian Motorsports by sponsoring the Brighton Speedway Points Fund. This latest contribution is just one of many generous ventures in sponsoring grass roots racing and will be greatly appreciated by the Brighton Speedway and their drivers.

Brighton Speedway has seen tremendous growth in its classes this year and this sponsorship along with the funds that are raised through out the season will contribute to the biggest points fund purse ever at the end of the season. "Points funds are important to both the drivers and the speedway" says Mark Rinaldi, Promoter of the Brighton Speedway.

"Points funds are used to increase the champions winnings of each class at the end of the season, creating a more dynamic and exciting purpose to racing. It encourages drivers to show up every week and race not only for the single race checker but to battle for every point they can get en route to the ultimate goal of a championship."

Lucas Oil has made a strong commitment to local racing in Canada. This however is their first major sponsorship of a dirt racetrack in Ontario. Brighton Speedway's relationship with Lucas Oil began last season when they sponsored the very successful Labour Day Classic Weekend.

"When we originally contacted Lucas it didn't look very positive, they had just committed thousands of dollars to the Lucas Oil Products Weekend Warrior Series among the Ontario paved tracks and Don Baker had indicated the budget was spent " says Rinaldi. After a couple of months of talks Lucas Oil has made the commitment to build on the strong relationship that was formed last year on Labour Day. Lucas Oil decided that an investment in the Brighton Speedway provides them an excellent opportunity to promote their product to the loyal fan base and supportive drivers of this dirt racetrack.

On behalf of Lucas Oil Products Canada and Don Baker, Vice President and Director, "we are very happy to be able to continue the forward movement of grass roots racing in Canada with the track sponsorship of Brighton Speedway and the event sponsorship for the Labour Day Classic Weekend at the track in September. The 2005 race season not only looks great for the fans and racers but also should draw the attention of corporate Canada to the value of local racing and it's home town hero’s."

This latest announcement adds to the excitement of the upcoming season at Brighton Speedway where every class except will be looking for a new champion as the defending title holders have moved on. The 2004 Novice Champ, Tim Kerr is making the leap to Brighton Speedway’s top class with a brand new Canadian Modified.

Caley Weese, the reigning Comp 4 Champ is building a Pro Stock as she makes the switch from a front wheel drive Honda to the V8 powered Chevy Monte Carlo. Dan Ferguson, the current Canadian Modified Class Champ is moving up to race in the DIRT Sportsman Modified at tracks throughout southern Ontario and upstate New York. Grant Fitzpatrick will be the only returning champ competing in the ProStock division for his third season

“The number of inquiries and the current rate of registration indicates to us that we could see 20 to 25 cars in 3 of the 4 classes.” stated Rinaldi. “This car count, combined with the special events and Coca Cola Kids Club activities will make the 2005 season at Brighton Speedway one of the best yet. We are really looking forward to it.” Family affordability and variety of entertainment make the Brighton Speedway the place to be on a Saturday night in Northumberland County.

The first race event is scheduled for April 30th, 2005 when the stock cars hit the track for opening night. Admission for opening night will be only $2.00 with a non-perishable food donation that will support local food banks. A tentative schedule, as well as Driver Registration information is available on line at http://www.brightonspeedway.com/. For more information, contact Brighton Speedway at (613)475-1102.

ALMS: Series Lands Sportsbook.com

With Files from the ALMS
SEBRING, FL – The American Le Mans Series (ALMS) hit the jackpot with a full house of ALMS sponsorship announcements made at Sebring International Raceway prior to the historic Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring March 19.

Sportsbook.com has decided to become a player on the track. The online giant will join the return of Mazda to North American Road Racing as the primary sponsor of the No. 8 Mazda factory powered Courage C65 for B-K Motorsports.

Sportsbook.com will also be the "official online gaming partner" of the ALMS for one year, which will include sponsorship of the "Sportsbook.com Winners Circle" at all ALMS events. Sportbook.com will also support a "Lucky Move of the Race" contingency award of $1,000 presented to the one driver who got lucky on the track at the previous race during prerace ceremonies. The last "Lucky Move of the Race" award at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca will be given to the recipient driver at the ALMS year-end banquet. In addition, lucky fans will have the chance to win Mazda RX-8s and other prizes over the course of the season via online entries.

The final aspect of the sponsorship trifecta involves Sportsbook.com becoming the title sponsor of the Grand Prix of Atlanta April 17.

ALMS: New Mazda-Powered P2 to Debut at Road Atlanta

With files from the ALMS
SEBRING, FL – Wisconsin-based B-K Motorsports announced at Sebring International Raceway that it would carry the Mazda banner and rotary power back into endurance racing in the LMP2 class of the American Le Mans Series for a full season in 2005.

The Mazda powered Courage will be piloted by 2002 Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) Formula Mazda National champion, Jamie Bach, and 2002 Star Mazda Championship winner Guy Cosmo. The Formula Mazda graduates duo has worked together previously as Cosmo served as driver-coach for Bach during the 2003 campaign.

The program is made possible largely because of a partnership with Sportsbook.com, a division of Sportingbet, a UK based company. Sportsbook.com and Sportingbet easily form the world's largest Internet gaming company and one of the Internet's most profitable companies.

In 1991, Mazda became the first and is still the only Japanese car manufacturer to win the prestigious 24 Hours of Le Mans. Mazda did so with the legendary rotary power plant, a key icon that has contributed to the unique heritage of the company that instills the “Soul of a Sports Car” in all of its products. With the rotary engine back in the marketplace as of 2003 in Mazda's RX-8 four door, four-seat sports car, it is only fitting that a group of young, dedicated racers bring Mazda back to endurance racing.

“SpeedSource has been working on a three-rotor development program for almost a full year now, and we are excited that we have a great partnership with B-K and its new Courage Chassis,” said Sylvain Tremblay, team owner and driver of SpeedSource race Engineering. “The Mazda rotary engine has a great racing heritage. We are focused on developing the power plant to be competitive with the best the class has to offer. We made a substantial investment in infrastructure with the addition of our new state-of-the-art DTS computerized engine dynamometer. David Haskell leads the engine department and has been busy all winter. Now the challenge of the track and the rebirth of the rotary on the ALMS circuit await us.”

The team also brings Goodyear Racing Tires back to the American Le Mans Series, a fitting tie-in with the Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear.

Fellows, O'Connell fast friends after crash

Just found this at the usatoday.com.... nice story.

USATODAY.com - Fellows, O'Connell fast friends after crash: "Fellows, O'Connell fast friends after crash

By Amy Rosewater, special for USA TODAY

The first time Ron Fellows and Johnny O'Connell met, it wasn't exactly friendly. They were racing each other in Formula Atlantic cars in Toronto several years ago. O'Connell qualified toward the front, and Fellows' car was further back."

Champ Car Musical Chairs... Tag lands at Walker

The T.O. promoter has been lobbying hard to keep Tagliani in the series... now he lands at Walker, who was last quoted hinting that he was about to close the doors.

Don't have a stroke if Tag ends up racing with sponsorship from Molson or Coors.

TSN.ca - Auto Racing - Canada's Sports Leader: "Alex Tagliani has landed at Walker Racing for the 2005 Champ Car season.

Owner Derrick Walker confirmed Tagliani will pilot one of two Lola chassis he plans to field this season. The Quebecer will be teammed with Australian rookie Marcus Marshall, who has competed in several European formulae from Formula Renault to F3.

'Media speculation had us gone from the series and closing our doors but the reality is we have had the elements of our two car multi-year commitment for nearly two months now,' said Walker, who singled out Team Rahal for their help in adapting to the new Lola car. "

ALMS: Sebring - Friday Practice Report

By Gary Horrocks
SEBRING, FL – The weather has improved dramatically here. After about three inches of rain on Thursday, Friday broke to be partially cloudy, but most importantly dry. No rain appears to be in sight.

The track conditions appear to be ideal, and this all bodes well for the race tomorrow. In fact, this may be the most interesting session of the event so far. When it all settled out, it was a Dyson one-two, with Guy Smith turning in the fastest time so far with a 1:49.114. If this was actually qualifying, the front of the grid would have a nice symmetrical look, with the two Champion Audis taking the third and fourth-quickest times.

In what bodes well for the future, the new Lola B05/40 in the hands of Intersport Racing has shown tremendous pace all weekend, and if this is any indication, this car could really be a force to be reckoned with and may just change the scene in P2.

GT1 has been the major focus of interest heading into the race, and a new twist in the developing plot has occurred. Fastest in class was a Corvette, but it was neither of the two factory cars. Newcomers Pacific Coast Motorsports put their C5-R at the top of the charts, when Ryan Dalziel bested the factory C6-R by over half a second.

While Porsche is still king in GT2, things may be changing. The Panoz is consistently up there, and after this session, they were right there. The #50 car was consistently in the top three in class, which was again headed by the Petersen/White Lightning Porsche. The progress that the Panoz has made has been impressive.
Even the drivers are quite pleased. Late last night, Bill Auberlen commented that, “We’re fast even when we are not trying.” That is the sign of a good car.

After a terribly boring and tedious Thursday, Friday has brought a new beginning and a new excitement to the race. This promises to be as good as advertised.

Ranger appears headed to Champ Car

TSN is reporting....

TSN.ca - Auto Racing - Canada's Sports Leader: "There will likely be three Canadian drivers for fans to cheer for in Champ Car this season.

Paul Tracy is set to return with Forsythe Racing while Alex Tagliani has been promised a ride in the series after losing his spot at Rocketsports. Joining them is 18 year old Andrew Ranger, who will likely make his debut with Mi-Jack/Conquest Racing."

SOD: Dustin Daggett eager go get going in '05

By Ken Pelkie

While winter still holds a firm grip around the Daggett Racing shop just outside of Lansing, Michigan, spring is in the air inside.

With little more than a month remaining until Dustin Daggett takes to the track in the Daggett family sprint car, the team appears ready and poised to mix up the schedule a bit in 2005. With engines freshened and new cars built, the two time and defending Sprints On Dirt champion will divide his time between the highly competitive SOD circuit with a sprinkling of 410 events throughout the season.

“We plan to start our season with the All Stars when they swing through Limaland and Eldora in late April” explained team owner/manager, Tom Daggett (Dustin’s Uncle). “Then we will see how the 410 portion goes and make a decision as to how many 410 races we will attend – we will at least be competing in both WOO shows in the state, along with the two All Star Shows at Hartford this season”.

“As for SOD, we don’t think that we will be running for the Championship, but will be at Crystal Opening Day and do as many races with them as possible” Tom went on.

Sponsorship returning to the Dowker powered Maxims will be Tri-County Collision; General Signs; Airgas; R & M Building Systems, and Ohsweken Speedway. New also for 2005 will be Engine Pro; Total Seal; Keizer Wheels, DMI and Hoosier Tires.

Newly designed Tee-shirts by Vision Graphix of Memphis, Tennessee have arrived. Fans may view and purchase them at the team transporter on race day or by visiting Dustin’s Official Website at www.dustindaggett.com

ALMS: Sebring - A Very Wet Night Practice

By Gary Horrocks
SEBRING, FL - Nothing really much to report here, as there was nothing to be learned from running in the wet this evening, especially with the forecast being for much better weather the rest of the weekend.

The real reason for this session was that ALMS regulations state that each driver must complete three practice laps in the dark. So, what most of the teams did was just get the minimum laps in. Simple as that. Take them out and bring them back safe. Thankfully, that is what appears to have happened, as there was no major drama to report

One team that did not go out was the Miracle Motorsports P2 Courage. There was some confusion about this, but finally word came back from the ALMS that the requirements for this car were waived, as “their tire manufacturer – Kuhmo – was not able to supply tires of the proper dimensions for the conditions that were present." Simply stated, they had no wets of the correct size available.

For now, all that remains before the ALMS 12-hour race on Saturday is a single practice session on Friday. This session could be very interesting, as teams find out how the track performs after being cleaned by the wonderful Florida rain

ALMS: Sebring Update - Qualifying Washed Out!

By Gary Horrocks
SEBRING, FL - Well, the track activities at Sebring were pretty much washed out on Thursday, as a front moved through late on Wednesday, dousing the area with large quantities of rain, thunder and lightning. So much for Florida being the sunshine state.

The weather meant that qualifying for the race was cancelled, and the starting grid was determined by the times turned in practice. In many ways, the rain comes as a blessing, as the track was becoming slower and slower and the sessions went on. Many drivers commented that the track was up to two to three seconds slower between the sessions yesterday. It is unknown what the track will be like when tomorrow dawns, but the general consensus is that it couldn’t be much worse that it already has been.

For the race, it will be Audi first and second at the front of the grid. Nothing new there. But, if the times had been set from the last session of the day, it would be a different look as Guy Smith put the Dyson Lola on top, besting the Audis by just over 0.3 seconds.

GT1, which has promised to be the story of the weekend has been, but most of that action has been off the track. As expected, Aston Martin posted a protest, concerning the legality of the Maserati. And as expected, the ALMS (or IMSA specifically) dismissed the protest. So, GT1 goes on as expected, with the new teams, (Aston Martin and Maserati) making the headlines, but the Corvettes taking a provisional class pole and P2, followed by the ACEMCO Saleen.

Fastest of the Corvettes was the #4 ‘Vette, followed by the Ron Fellows driven #3. Fellows stated, “The car is going well, but we still have quite aways to go, as far as development. I do like our chances though, as I do think we’ll be reliable, especially as our running gear is all from the C5.”

In GT2, the Petersen/White Lightning Porsche came out on top, but right behind them was the promisingly quick Panoz, driven by Bill Auberlen. Scott Maxwell, who is signed for a full season in the #51 Panoz was fifth quickest in class.

Our friends at Colour Tech South have sent up another batch of great testing shots from Sebring.

Radical Sportscars today announces its intention to build the SR9 LMP2 car for the 2006 season: this will be the latest in the company's line of highly cost effective prototypes.

"As a statement of our intent, we have hired Peter Elleray as a consultant to oversee the design of the SR9, working alongside our own Chief Engineer Nick Walford," commented Radical co-founder Mick Hyde. "Peter was responsible for the Le Mans Bentleys, but we're going to utilise his design skills in a rather more cost-effective way for this project."

A key feature of the SR9 will be its price.

"Our philosophy is to expend as much effort on engineering a car to a price as we do on the car's performance," continues Mick Hyde. "The rolling chassis will cost ?120,000 ($228,000) to ?130,000 ($247,000), with the engine and ancillaries costing another ?30,000 ($57,000). We believe this will bring a lot more racers into prototype racing - people who previously considered it too expensive."

"The monocoque will be of an aluminium-carbon composite construction," explains Peter Elleray. "We believe that we can build an LMP2 car within the 750kg minimum weight, utilising this type of cost effective construction. The SR9 is obviously a completely different type of engineering challenge to designing an overall Le Mans winner, but it is one that is hugely rewarding and I'm very much enjoying working with the Radical team."

The power unit will be Radical's own Powertec RPD Macroblock V8, as used (as the RPA) in the SR8, but enlarged to 3 litres. With a restrictor break for a smaller engine than the 3.4 litre limit, power will be a highly competitive 525bhp @ 11,350 rpm.

There are a number of 'Radical-family' design cues for the SR9, but some of the car's features may look familiar from elsewhere. The air intakes have a Bentley look about them, while the carbon cockpit fairing is reminiscent of the Ferrari 333SP. As with all conventional carbon monocoque cars the footbox is raised to best utilise the front-end, under-car airflow.

"We produce our own engines, transaxles, brakes and suspension in partnership with key suppliers and manufacturer, fabricated items, machined components and composites in-house," comments Mick Hyde. "This is the key to our system of producing competitive cars at a realistic price."

The company already has 18 distributors around the world: key distributors will be appointed to head-up the Radical attack on both the ALMS and LMES.

"We're announcing this project at Sebring because we can see the potential of this car in the ALMS, as well as in Europe," explains Mick Hyde. "It's going to be highly competitive, but we believe that the price of the car will be its unique selling point. We expect to sell cars to privateers moving up from GT racing and from smaller prototypes, while we envisage this car being the ideal starting point for young chargers who want to become the next Allan McNish. We want to create a whole new market for sports prototypes."

Customers who wish to go 'all the way' to Le Mans have the option to upgrade the standard iron discs to carbon items, while alternative transaxles can be fitted instead of the Powertec RQ2 six-speed, which is supplied as standard. There is also the option to fit an Engine Developments or Nicholson-McLaren engine.

Mick Hyde concludes, "Daniel Perdrix at the ACO has seen our plans, and recognises the value of this LMP2 project. The design of the SR9 is not going to be revolutionarily, but the commercial thinking behind the project is. We've achieved all our targets with our current models; now we're going to do it with this one."

"We're planning on having the first car ready to be shaken down in the Spring of 2006." Posted by Hello

LUCAS OIL WWS: Inside Track signs on as WWS contingency sponsor

MISSISSAUGA, ON – The Lucas Oil Weekend Warrior Series (WWS) is excited to announce its first promotional partnership. In keeping with its core mandate to support grassroots Canadian motorsports, Inside Track Motorsport News has committed to a major contingency sponsorship deal with the Lucas Oil WWS.

The program will see cash awarded to the top 10 Late Model / Limited Late Model points finishers at the seven participating WWS tracks. On top of that, Inside Track will award money to the top-five points finishers, in at least two other racing divisions, at all seven Lucas Oil WWS tracks.

The Inside Track cash bonuses will be in addition to any existing points fund programs already in place at the respective Speedways, as well as the $102,000 Lucas Oil points fund. The program is to be administered by Paxton Motorsports Marketing, the firm that manages the Lucas Oil WWS.

“The Lucas Oil WWS is one of the most exciting things to happen to Canadian motorsports in years,” said Inside Track co-publisher Rob Morton. “The program is geared toward grassroots Saturday night stock car racers; the lifeblood of our magazine. We’re very proud to be associated with the Weekend Warrior Series and to jump on at the ground floor of this exciting new program. We’d like to thank all the racers, Lucas Oil and Paxton Motorsports for their continued support of Inside Track.”

In addition to the contingency program, Inside Track will also be providing extensive coverage of the racing at every Lucas Oil WWS host-track. The reports, which will appear in every issue of Inside Track, will include race reports, driver and fan profiles, as well as other track news.

WWS administrator Josh Paxton said, “Inside Track is the leader when it comes to covering grassroots Canadian motorsports, and they are especially strong in terms of coverage at the seven participating WWS tracks. So it’s only natural that we would turn to them as a contingency and editorial partner for the Lucas Oil WWS. Our goal is to raise the profile of the sport and we look forward to working with Inside Track to reach that goal.”

Entering its inaugural season, the Lucas Oil WWS is based at participating Ontario short track ovals: Lucas Oil Flamboro Speedway, Peterborough Speedway, Kawartha Speedway, Delaware Speedway, Sunset Speedway, Barrie Speedway and Mosport Speedway.

TRUCKS: MOPAR'S MUSGRAVE ON THE MOVE EARLY IN 2005

CENTER LINE, MI - Ted Musgrave is on the move in the 2005 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, and there's one thing that definitely stands out: For the first time in several years, Musgrave and the No. 1 Ultra Motorsports Mopar Dodge Ram team are on top of their game early in the season, and it seems that Lady Luck has dealt Musgrave a good hand right from the start.

It's a toss of the dice that Musgrave isn't familiar with.

"To be honest, I'm not sure what to expect with a start like we've had," Musgrave joked earlier this week. "This is such the opposite from the past few years, I hope that good things continue for us. So far, it seems that luck has been on our side, which is surprising. We're just hoping that it continues."

While Musgrave jokingly attributes this turn of events to luck, he's also quick to point out that the team isn't doing anything differently than they have in the past.

"We've always worked hard and given a 100 percent effort. It just seems that we could never get anything to fall our way early in the season," Musgrave said. "It's so different to be sitting in the top half of the points this early. Normally, we've got to work harder at the end of the season to make up for mishaps from the early races. This team always works hard. It's just that this year we're getting the results we're looking for now rather than later."

The Ultra Motorsports team is well prepared for the World Financial Group 200 race this week at Atlanta Motor Speedway, and they're bringing an additional piece of security with them to the event.

"We tested a month ago at Atlanta, and the test was great," Musgrave said. "We're going to run the same truck we ran at Fontana last month, which was just a great truck. We know that with the test and the truck, we've got a great shot at winning this race. We're looking forward to going to Atlanta this week."

In last year's NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series event at Atlanta Motor Speedway, Musgrave drove to an eighth-place finish after qualifying in 21st position. The No. 1 Ultra Motorsports team will enter this week's World Financial Group 200 in the fourth position in series points, only 45 points out of first place.

We're all anxious for the green flag to wave on Sunday, so here are some images to keep your appetite whetted! ...MarkA

After all of David Richard's protests about the 'illegal' Maserati being invited to participate in the 2005 ALMS season, it was hugely ironic that the Prodrive-built GT1-class Aston Martin DB9R's showed up to tech inspection 3mm too wide.

Audi looks set to dominated yet again, this time with two P1 entries courtesy of Champion Racing.

Ron Fellows and company got the chance to shake down their new GT1-class ride for 2005: the Chevrolet Corvette C6-R.

The Rollcentre Dallara Nissan may have an outside chance of a P1 podium finish if others in class break down.

Larbre competition brought over a Prodrive-built Ferrari 550 to run in GT1.

Lola's new P1/P2 car broke cover in pure carbon black.

The Risi Competizione-run Maserati MC12 was the source of much debate in the last few days.

WOO: Styres Rolls The Dice With The Outlaws

The 'Ohsweken Flyer' Glenn Styres flew west this past week to run with the World of Outlaws in Las Vegas. It was Glenn's first attempt at competing with the top sprint car circuit in the world. With their first taste of 410 racing coming just a month earlier in Florida it was a big test for the Styres Racing Team.

"It?s a dream come true for me, I have been wanting to do this for years" said Styres prior to heading to Las Vegas. "We were going to go, then we weren?t going to go. Finally we just decided to do it." he added. Team crew chief Kevin Loveys and fellow competitor Jack Pillon made the 40-plus hour trip using the Pillon Racing hauler. Their many hours spent on the road would not be a wasted effort.

It would be on night one of the two night event where Glenn would have his best showing. After timing in 28th and finishing 9th in his heat race, Styres would show his muscle in the B-Main. The #0 ESSO ride found itself in the A-Main by virtue of a solid 4th place finish in the B-Main. While Kraig Kinser would go on to win the A-Main Glenn would end up a respectable 20th place ahead of World of Outlaw veterans, Sammy Swindell and Brooke Tatnell.

The second evening of racing wouldn't be quite as successful for the Styres Racing Team. While they managed a better qualifying effort, timing in 17th, their heat and B-Main performances were not good enough to make the big show. Glenn would finish 7th in his heat and 9th in the B-Main. Donny Schatz, of Fargo North Dakota, would claim the victory in the A-Main.

"Las Vegas was amazing, and alot of fun." Said Styres who plans to run with the Outlaws in New York State this summer. The #0 ESSO car will compete full time once again with the Southern Ontario Sprints in 2005 while competing in special events throughout the year with various other sprint car series across North America.

NASCAR: Gordon would love to race in Canada

Jeff Gordon is the latest NASCAR personality to come out in favour of a big league NASCAR race in Canada. The following story appears in TSN.CA

TSN.ca - Auto Racing - Canada's Sports Leader: "NASCAR's first foray outside of the United States was considered a success for the racing series, which ran a Busch Series event in Mexico City last weekend.

And some drivers say they would be interested in a race in Canada, with Jeff Gordon singling out the road course in Montreal.

''I'd love to see us in Canada,'' said Gordon, who didn't compete in Mexico City. ''Staying in North America is extremely important. Canada seems like the next natural place for us to go. Obviously Mexico went well for the Busch cars; that might be a good option (for a Cup race) as well.''"

ALMS: Aston Martin Confirms Sebring Line-Up

Aston Martin Racing has officially confirmed the driver line-up for its two DBR9 entries at the 12 Hours of Sebring in Florida.

David Brabham, Stephane Ortelli and Darren Turner will drive car number 57, in green and yellow livery and driving car number 58, in green and red, will be Peter Kox, Pedro Lamy and Stephane Sarrazin. The colours echo those first seen on the DB3S Works cars in the 1950s.

George Howard-Chappell, Team Principal of Aston Martin Racing, said: “I’m sure enthusiasts around the world will share in the team’s excitement at Aston Martin’s long awaited return to the race track.

“The 12 Hours of Sebring will undoubtedly be a tough race debut for the all-new DBR9, but we regard it as a critical milestone in our testing and development programme leading up to the Le Mans 24 Hour race in June.

The results we have achieved from our testing and development programme so far – including a test session at Sebring earlier this year - have been encouraging, but looking ahead to the race, clearly there are many unknowns. The team has been working hard in preparation for Sebring, but we have yet to run in a race environment. Regardless of the outcome at Sebring it will prove an invaluable learning experience for us.”

Aston Martin last appeared at Sebring in 1983 when two prototypes – the Nimrod – finished fifth overall. Aston Martin has a lengthy history at the Sebring circuit dating back to 1950 when three DB2s competed in what was then a 6-hour competition. In 1953 a DB3 achieved Aston Martin’s best ever finish with a class win and an overall second place. Some three years later, driving a DB3S, the Le Mans winning team of Carroll Shelby and Roy Salvadori took fourth place overall and in 1958 Stirling Moss set the fastest race lap in a DBR1.
