St. Thomas Truck Nationals returns for fourth year





The St. Thomas Truck Nationals return to St. Thomas Dragway for the fourth edition next weekend, August 19 & 20. The event is a major fund raiser for the St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital Foundation and features a show, shine and shootout format. The Show and Shine portion of the program has classes for almost every type of heavy truck.

Show and Shine classes include Best Truck 2006-2007, Best Truck and Trailer, Best Working Truck 1997 - 2005, Best Restored Truck pre-1990, best fleet of five or more trucks parked together and Best Bulk On/Off Road. There is also a Judges Choice Award for best over-all truck.The Shootout Drag Racing portion includes classes for Heavy Truck Bracket, Heavy Modified Truck Bracket, Heavy Modified Truck Heads-up, Light Truck Bracket, a $500 to win No-Box race car Bracket on Saturday as well as Test & Tune for cars, trucks, motorcycles and snowmobiles both days. The Heavy Trucks will time trial Saturday and race Sunday. Friday night's Performance Unlimited Street Legal program from 6-10 will be open for the Heavy Trucks as well as Saturday night's Run What Ya Brung program also 6-10.

Additional features will include a Battle of the Bands on Saturday night, a Corn Roast Saturday afternoon, Face Painting, clowns and a magic show for the kids, a Heritage Truck display and a Light Truck show. Many industry vendors will have displays throughout the midway. Truck judging will take place Sunday morning from 9 to Noon with the Awards Parade taking place at Noon. Camping (no hook-ups) is available all weekend with hot showers in the pit area. The food booths will be open for breakfast, lunch and supper both days.

Gates open Friday at noon for weekend camping. Admission is $15 per day or $25 for a two day pass, $50 for Big Rig entry which includes show, shine and shootout, $30 for test and tune either day and $50 for the Saturday race car bracket race. A family day pass is available for $25. Children 12 and under are no charge.
