TORRANCE, Calif. — When the
2008 Lexus LS 600h L sedan goes on sale in June it will carry a sticker price of $104,750, making it the most expensive hybrid on the U.S. market.
Lexus has not released what may be the most critical information about the
LS600h L: that is, what kind of fuel economy it will achieve. The hybrid combines a 5.0-liter V8 gasoline engine with large, high-output electric motors and a large-capacity battery pack. Lexus says the powertrain is "on par with modern 12-cylinder engines." The engine is mated to a continuously variable transmission.
Lexus has not released precise technical specifications, only saying that the hybrid is expected to deliver "more than 430 horsepower." It has not released torque specs.
