SEOUL, Korea — Unveiled at the motor show here,
Hyundai's redesigned
H-1 minivan is a versatile multipurpose vehicle for Asia and Europe, with accommodations for up to 12.
Available in passenger and commercial versions, the
H-1 — code-named "TQ" and sold in some markets as "Starex" — shares some underbody components with the Hyundai Entourage that is sold in North America, but otherwise the two vans are dramatically different.
The top engine is a 2.5-liter common-rail diesel that makes 170 horsepower and 289 pound-feet of torque. In Korea and Europe, it can be ordered with either a five-speed manual or five-speed automatic transmission. In other markets, a 2.5-liter turbodiesel, rated at 100 hp and 166 lb-ft, is offered with a four-speed automatic or five-speed manual.
Hyundai also offers a 2.4-liter four-cylinder gas engine, rated at 170 hp and 165 lb-ft.
Among the features of the
new H-1 are dual sliding side doors, a backup warning system and 16-inch wheels and tires.
Production starts in August.
