FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif. —
Hyundai Motor America has announced that its new seven-passenger
Veracruz crossover vehicle will range in price from $26,995 for the base GLS model to $34,695 for the top-of-the-line
Veracruz Limited with all-wheel drive. Prices include a $690 destination charge.
In a statement, the Korean automaker noted that the
Veracruz "has a base price more than $11,000 lower than the [2008] Lexus RX 350." The RX 350 starts at $38,115, including a $715 shipping charge. The two compete fairly head to head in powertrain terms: The Veracruz is equipped with a 3.8-liter V6 that makes 260 horsepower and 257 pound-feet of torque, mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. The RX 350 is equipped with a 270-hp 3.5-liter V6 that delivers 251 lb-ft of torque. It is mated to a five-speed automatic transmission.
However, careful shoppers will note that the base 2007 Chrysler Pacifica, also a
Veracruz competitor, slots in at $25,190, including a $730 destination charge. That is $1,805 cheaper than the Veracruz. In addition, the 2007 Toyota Highlander starts at $25,525, including a $645 destination charge or $1,470 cheaper than Veracruz.
The
Veracruz comes in three trim levels: GLS, SE and Limited. All models include stability control.
