TORRANCE, Calif. —
Honda has announced that it will stage the world debut of a new club-racer-inspired version of the
Honda S2000 at the New York auto show in April. The
S2000 CR will hit showrooms in the fall. Although pricing hasn't been finalized, it is expected to come in at under $40,000.
The base
2007 Honda S2000 carries a $34,845 sticker price, including a $595 destination charge. The rear-wheel-drive convertible is equipped with a 2.2-liter four-cylinder engine that makes 237 horsepower at 7,800 rpm and 162 pound-feet of torque at 6,800 rpm. Honda did not release engine specifications on the
S2000 CR, describing it only as "aggressively tuned."
The Japanese automaker said the
new S2000 model is "engineered around the expectations and needs of Honda performance enthusiasts." It added that the S2000 CR will take the vehicle's "track-worthy performance to an entirely new level." The
S2000 was introduced in 1999.
