The 2008 STS, which goes on sale in midsummer, gets General Motors' first direct-injection V6, a 3.6-liter unit rated at 298 horsepower and 268 pound-feet of torque. The new engine, which packs considerably more wallop than the current 3.6-liter V6, also gets a six-speed automatic transmission for the first time.Visually, the '08 STS doesn't look much different. A revised front fascia picks up some of the styling cues from the 2008 CTS, as well as the side air extractors from the '07 Escalade. Additional details include a body-color rear fascia, polished aluminum exhaust tips and chrome-plated door handles. Cadillac says the exterior dimensions on the STS have been slightly increased.
The '08 STS gets several new technologies, including optional lane-departure and blind-spot warning systems. Head-up display is offered for the first time on the V6 model.
A new performance handling package, available on all but V6 all-wheel-drive models, bundles 18-inch chrome-plated alloy wheels with Michelin Pilot Sport tires and upgraded Brembo disc brakes. V8 models get an improved stability-control system with enhanced variable-rate steering.
