The lower safety rating is widely regarded as a major misstep for Toyota, which has said the Tundra launch is its most important U.S. launch ever. The Tundra earned four stars in head-on collision tests by the federal government, one short of a perfect five-star rating. Big pickups from General Motors and Ford earned five stars.The NHTSA Web site on Wednesday said the '07 Tundra has yet to be rated for side-impact crashworthiness and rollovers.
NHTSA's latest crash tests also awarded four stars in frontal crashes to Nissan's Frontier compact pickup.
