GREENSBURG, Ind. —
Honda broke ground on its $550 million assembly plant here on Monday and confirmed that it will build
2009-model Civics when it goes into operation in the fall of
2008.
Honda currently makes
Civics at plants in East Liberty, Ohio, and Alliston, Ontario. It is increasing Civic output now by adding production at its second Alliston plant.
Honda said the Indiana plant will help it to boost total North American auto production capacity from 1.4 million units to more than 1.6 million units in 2008, employment in North America to more than 37,000 workers and capital investment in North America to more than $9 billion.
