America's rediscovered love affair with muscle cars is blossoming with those good ol' boys building race versions of the latest crop of V8s.
Dodge has come up with the
Challenger Super Stock to stun the crowds at the SEMA (Specialty Equipment Market Association) show in Las Vegas.
Decked out in stars 'n' stripes livery with a hunkered stance, hood hump and rear lip spoiler, this Challenger has another wee surprise in store.
Under the bonnet of the
Super Stock concept is Dodge's new V8 engine and it's a Hemi.
It packs 392 cubic inches, which in Olde English is 6.3 litres, so it's good to see
Dodge isn't letting environmental concerns curtail its sports car programme.
Three versions of the engine are in the pipeline, but the only one we're interested in is the full-house 540bhp version running on old fashioned carburettors.
Dodge says the
Challenger Super Stock is a concept, but company bosses chuckled quietly when it was suggested this car could be racing by the time the
Challenger road car is launched in 2008.
