TALLADEGA: Asphalt factory in place...


TALLADEGA, AL - Nearly all the components of a portable asphalt plant are nowmobilized on the grounds of Talladega Superspeedway, signaling thatpreparations are under way for the monumental paving project set tobegin this spring immediately following the April 28-30 Aaron's DreamWeekend.

In coming weeks, asphalt test strips will be constructed onproperty. Track officials announced in December that the 2.66-miletri-oval track, apron and pit road will be completely repaved withasphalt for the first time since 1979. The 2006 racing season atTalladega Superspeedway kicks off with Aaron's Dream Weekend set forApril 28-30.

On Friday, April 28, fans will witness two NASCAR NEXTELCup Series practices, followed by The Birmingham News Qualifying for theNASCAR Busch Series. Saturday, April 29 will feature The Birmingham NewsQualifying for the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series and the Aaron's 312 NASCARBusch Series race. Then on Sunday, the stage will be set for the Aaron's499 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series race.
