From Raceline.ca.... Erik Tomas' Update

From Raceline.ca

CASCAR was born at Delaware, but business is business. NASCAR isn’t buying CASCAR, so forget that fantasy. But if they’re supposed to be handling CASCAR’s marketing and promotion, their 2006 schedule should have been released months ago. I got a one-word response from NASCAR when I asked when the schedule would make an appearance. I was told, “Shortly”. How long is a piece of string?

In the meantime, Delaware had to move on and confirm dates. They also heard the complaints of expense, and gassed their Dodge Weekly Racing Series. They have a long-term investment in their local racers, and if the NASCAR programs and promotions don’t fit their business model, they have to cut them loose.
While we wait for a Busch race in Montreal or Toronto, and maybe a Truck race in Calgary, Delaware needed to protect its cubs.

Delaware is also initiating something similar to changes on the Southern Ontario DIRT Modified and Sportsman scene. Replacing costly travelling series with closer-to-home inter-track programs with common rules. Local tracks are learning to pool their strengths to survive.

It’s called living within your means. If NASCAR has big plans for Canada, and we believe they ultimately do, the local/regional tracks have to do what’s necessary to pay the bills now.
