Courtesy Mid America Motorsports President, Dave DideroSeptember 5, 2005. The #42 LE Walker Transport Chevrolet team began working for the Great Canadian Race weekend at Delaware Speedway as soon as the car completed the previous event. “We had a problem under the hood and we wanted to find it right away” said team President Dave Didero. “Before we even finished loading at Peterborough we dug into it and finally discovered it was in the carburetor”. The late night work paid off.Driver Sean Stafford was only able to qualify the LE Walker Transport Chevy in the 26th position but he and the team were confident they would be competitive during the race. “The car felt really good during practice, best it has all year, I just missed the qualifying lap” said the driver.
As the green flag flew on the 300 lap event Sean was able to gain positions immediately. In the first few laps he was quickly into the top twenty and set his sights on the cars ahead. “As the race went on things looked very promising but I didn’t want to get too excited after the way our season has gone” said the driver. As pit stops began for the teams Sean continued to move the LE Walker Transport Chevy forward and was running comfortably in the top ten.
Following their scheduled stop Sean was back in the pack with plenty of traffic and the brakes began to heat up forcing the team to stop for repairs. The oppressive heat and plenty of wear and tear actually melted the brake cylinder. The LE Walker Transport team made repairs and once again the car returned to form.
Sean Stafford would complete the race and would gain a total of twelve spots and finish 14th overall. “It felt so good to be running the way we’re capable of for a change” said Stafford. “We’re now focused on keeping this momentum going and building on it for the final two races”.
