Murcielago successor details leak out as Lamborghini builds 4,099th and last Murcielago supercar.

It’s the end of an era – the last Murciélago has rolled off Lamborghini’s production line in Sant’Agata, Italy. The bright orange LP670-4 SV is the 4,099th Murcielago to be built, and was bought by a customer in Switzerland.
But while the Italian firm marked the end of production with a parade of V12-powered Lamborghinis from its past, details have begun to emerge of the successor to the flagship supercar.
Set to feature the name LP700-4, the new car will make its public debut at the Geneva Motor Show next year. The name comes from the fact that the new mid-mounted 6.5-litre V12 engine produces 700 metric horsepower, or 690bhp, which is delivered to all four wheels via a single-clutch seven-speed automated manual gearbox.
As previewed by the Sesto Elemento concept shown in Paris, the LP700 features a carbon monocoque chassis, which helps to make the car 229kg lighter than the 1,650kg Murciélago, and 70 per cent more rigid.
Performance is impressive, with 0-62mph completed in just 2.9 seconds and a 217mph top speed. Importantly, the new car once again features Lamborghini’s trademark scissor doors which are now electrically operated. Prices are expected to start from £180,000.
