According to reports from Japan’s Nikkan Kogyo newspaper, the Big T is aiming for each battery to run 80 kilometers on a single charge from a home outlet. The new batteries are expected by 2020.Toyota has already confirmed its intentions to have a hybrid variant in each model line by the 2020s, but given current issues with battery development, these post lithium-ion batteries might be the only way it can get there.
The Japanese giant believes extra power storage offered by these new batteries will help maintain its lead in hybrid vehicles for decades to come.
Going back to lithium ion batteries for a minute, they are scheduled in Toyota hybrid vehicles by the end of the decade.
