LOS ANGELES —
Volkswagen rolled with the low-emissions juggernaut at the 2007 Los Angeles Auto Show, unveiling a new "cleanest diesel ever" that will be an option on its
2009 Jetta sedan and SportWagen.
VW said the engine will give 30 percent better "real-world fuel economy" compared with the same model equipped with a gasoline engine.

The 16-valve 2.0-liter four-cylinder
TDI engine makes 140 horsepower and 235 pound-feet of torque. It has a common-rail fuel supply and high-pressure injectors, as well as a nitrous oxide storage catalyst that reduces NOx emissions as much as 90 percent.
The new diesel will be available on '09 J
etta models in the third quarter of 2008, VW announced. No prices were released.
