RACE CITY MOTORSPORT PARK: Alberta Big Rig Weekend Preview

CALGARY, AB – The September long weekend is also the Alberta Big Rig Weekend at Race City with something for every fan of really big trucks.

If your taste runs to well-detailed highway tractor-trailer rigs, the Big Rig Show and Shine running during the day on both Saturday and Sunday is exactly what you want to see. There will be rows of customized trucks being shown off by their proud owners.

Just for fun, on Saturday afternoon some of the Big Rig pilots will be drag racing their rides. Look for some purpose-built drag rigs, too. Watching a turbocharged diesel rig do a burnout is something you won¹t see every day.

For those who like to watch cars race, the regular CALTRONICS Saturday Night Stocks show will run as usual, this week featuring the bullet-quick NEWALTA Late Models, I.M.C.A. Stock Cars, ALPINE UPHOLSTERY Mini Stocks and BUCK$ AUTO PARTS Claimers.

BIG RIG THUNDER

Things get serious on Sunday afternoon when the racing Big Rigs of the NABRR series take to the high-banked half-mile oval. Drag racing a Big Rig is one thing, but muscling a 12,000 pound vehicle around Race City at racing speeds is a whole other deal. Watching a dozen of these machines bellow down to take the green flag is one of the great moments in motor sport.

The Big Rig races are the most popular oval track events at Race City, for a long time the only place in the world where big trucks raced on a stock car oval.

Backing up the Big Rigs are the Mac¹s Legends Cars and the Buck$ Auto Parts claimers.

Spectator gates open at 9am on both Saturday and Sunday for the Big Rig Show and Shine.

Big Rig drag racing will begin at approximately 4pm.

CALTRONICS Saturday Night Stocks racing begins at 7pm.

BIG RIG THUNDER racing on Sunday begins at 1pm.
