CASCAR: Delaware Qualifying & Grid

Dave Whitlock earns the pole for the APC 300 Great Canadian Race Weekend

LONDON, ON – On Saturday afternoon at Delaware Speedway, three-time CASCAR Super Series National champion Dave Whitlock posted the fastest time during qualifying for tomorrow’s APC 300 Great Canadian Race.

The achievement earned the Avenue Motor Works / NMT Dodge Charger driver the pole position for Sunday afternoon’s 300-lap CASCAR Super Series feature event. Whitlock, who hails from nearby Wyoming, ON, lapped the half-mile oval in 19.421 seconds, which translated into a speed of 92.683 mph.

Four-time National champ Don Thomson Jr. was second-fastest, at 19.537 seconds. Thomson’s Home Hardware Chevy will start Sunday’s race on the outside of the front row. The Hamilton, ON racer is the current points leader following nine events and is gunning for an unprecedented fifth-consecutive Super Series National title.

A total of 32 drivers qualified for the APC 300 Great Canadian Race. Peter Gibbons, the five-time winner of the prestigious event, will start 16th on Sunday. Last year, the Canadian Tire Chevy driver started last before charging through the field to victory. Gibbons, who is currently second in the National points, will be hoping for a repeat of his 2003 performance in the Great Canadian Race, when he also started 16th before collecting his fourth win in the legendary event.

Delaware Speedway’s spectator gates will open on Sunday morning at 11 a.m. The Super Series driver autograph session and several other pre-race festivities will set the stage for the start of the APC 300 at 2 p.m.
