Pontiac GTO- Jim Wangers prepares new car?

Pontiac GTO - legendary muscle-car. This car was not always fast but the aspiration to find room for as much as possible big engine in minimum possible body has allowed it to become in the early seventies an instant hit of sales, and at the same time and an adoration subject.

Fair portion of success GTO has received thanks to Jim Wangers working as the director for marketing Pontiac when first GTO was issued. There was in 1964. Therefore it is not necessary to be surprised that companies Big 3 Performance, conceived reincarnation Pontiac GTO of 1969, were necessary a name of Wangers and its service.

External changes in the car will be a little – unless air intakes on a cowl become wider, yes the spoiler - "a duck tail" in style Trans Am will increase. In interior there will be a new panel of devices, seats Recaro, an audiosystem and GPS-navigation. Will finish shape the unique chassis with a number of units from Corvette and Ford, and also modernised wheels Pontiac Rally II.

Under a car cowl will take places 8,3-litre motor V8 from Pontiac, connected to a six-speed transmission from Dodge Viper. Exact terms of an exit of the car and its price are not declared yet, however at present prospective cost of the car is estimated in 130-140 thousand dollars.

Pontiac becomes history!

One of the American electronic automobile portals has published the information that on Monday on April, 27th the management of General Motors will declare closing of the division – companies Pontiac. Refusal of a brand is connected with actions on restructuring of activity GM which, apparently, will be deeper and heavier, than it was supposed.

Americans are sorry about loss of one more historical brand, experts make a helpless gesture and assure that they guessed for a long time possibility of acceptance of such decision. Division Pontiac is too weak in the economic plan to "burn" money for support of its "burning" (and is faster, "decays"). In General Motors on the information on closing Pontiac do not make comments. Official decisions in this respect are not present, and if there are no official statements, - the given division means exists and works in a usual mode. Till Monday … Classical models – Firebird and GTO – have made in due time glory of company Pontiac, however now given division exhausts cars in a narrow niche which are on sale worse than ever. At Pontiac, analysts of the market consider, there is no future in an economic crisis. There is no it and at mark GMC. But hearings and conversations that it will make company Pontiac, in the American mass-media are not present. While is not present.

638-horsepower Pontiac G8 GXP Street Concept

One of the best parts about SEMA is getting to see the manufacturers build cars they might not otherwise. Take this G8 GXP Street Concept, for example. Sure, the 415-horsepower 6.2L V8 in the standard G8 GXP is plenty good enough, but why not stuff the new LSX454 crate engine from GM Performance Parts underneath the hood? The 7.4L V8 is good for a ZR1-matching 638 horsepower and 600 lb-ft torque, allowing this G8 to unashamedly call itself a true muscle car. Other features include stiffer springs and the brake package from the CTS-V as well as 20-inch black chrome wheels.

638-horsepower Pontiac G8 GXP Street ConceptThe exterior has been given an aggressive makeover with a new front fascia with unique upper and lower grilles and a rear fascia that incorporates a diffuser and performance exhaust system. Inside are custom leather seats and a new gauge cluster.

2010 Pontiac G8 ST may get direct-inject V6

The Pontiac G8 Sport Truck was originally supposed to be powered only by General Motors' 361-horsepower 6.0L V8, but tough fuel economy standards and customer demand for fuel efficient products have conspired to change the General's plans. Edmunds Inside Line quotes an anonymous senior engineer at the General saying that the unique sport ute will receive automaker's 3.6L V6, as well. That's good news for fuel economy, but the better news is that the 3.6L V6 of choice will be the direct injection versoin. That will likely give the G8 ST the same 300+hp as the 2010 Camaro and Cadillac CTS. That should also make the base ST more appealing to enthusiasts and the average Joe, with more power at the pedal and a healthier torque curve. The DI version of GM's 3.6L V6 will also likely be available in the base G8 sedan for the 2010 model year, as well.

2010 Pontiac G8 STIt makes sense that GM would go with direct injection for the G8 ST, as the General has already promised the powerful V6 for the Chevy Traverse and Camaro. Putting DI in more vehicles will help drive down the cost of producing these more high-tech engines economy of scale while also giving customers V8ish performance with V6ish fuel economy. Keep in mind, however, that though a GM engineer was quoted, none of this is official word from GM, so plans could change.

2009 Pontiac G8 Review

The 2009 Pontiac G8 is at the core of Pontiac's recent resurgence. This powerful yet refined rear-wheel-drive performance sedan is unlike anything Pontiac has offered in recent memory -- and we mean that as a sincere compliment.

2009 Pontiac G8 -12009 Pontiac G8 -2The Pontiac G8 is a mechanical twin of the Commodore sedan from Holden, GM's Australian subsidiary. That's a good thing, as the Commodore has garnered accolades Down Under for providing affordable full-size functionality in a swift and agile package. Thankfully, Pontiac stylists resisted the urge to outfit the American version with the brand's traditional assortment of scoops, vents and spoilers, and the car looks muscular and purposeful from most angles.

The G8's mechanical merits are impressive, from its range of energetic engines to its impressive combination of sharp handling and supple composure over broken pavement. The new 2009 GXP model raises the performance bar even higher with a 402-horsepower version of the iconic Corvette's 6.2-liter V8. One of our few complaints about the G8 has been the lack of a manual transmission, so we're pleased to report that you can get one on the GXP (though still not on lesser G8 models). In any guise, the G8's BMW-like MacPherson front strut layout and multilink rear suspension yields a sophisticated driving character that's more typical of European sport sedans than large domestic rear-drivers.

The G8 also impresses inside, especially considering the plastic depths to which Pontiac interiors had previously sunk. There are still too many hard surfaces, but the center stack -- save for a couple cheesy Atari-grade digital readouts at the top -- is more than a little reminiscent of Audi's industry-leading efforts. Passenger room is plentiful, particularly in back, where all but the largest riders will have space to spare. The rear center seat isn't so hospitable, however, as the wide center tunnel necessitated by the G8's rear-drive layout essentially eliminates legroom there.

At the G8's moderate price point, the Dodge Charger/Chrysler 300 twins are the only other roomy, rear-wheel-drive, full-size performance sedans available. The Chrysler siblings are certainly competent, but the G8's sporting character sets it apart. We're not fans of the G8's lackluster fuel economy, but then, the Charger/300 duo aren't likely to win any efficiency awards from the EPA either. Bottom line: If you want a large sedan with American attitude and Continental manners, the 2009 Pontiac G8 is in a class of its own.

2009 Pontiac Vibe GT Review

The 2009 Pontiac Vibe GT doesn't win the statuette for enthusiasts' favorite in its category. That honor still belongs to the Mazda Mazda3, which has long delivered world-class driving dynamics that are unmatched in this price segment. Still, the Vibe GT's performance is incredibly engaging relative to most others in its class, and it trumps the 3 when it comes to cargo room and passenger space. The hardworking Pontiac Vibe GT deserves a starring role, but whether it's an ideal pick for you will depend on which attributes you value most in a wagon.

2009 Pontiac Vibe GT -12009 Pontiac Vibe GT -2Paired with the optional five-speed automatic transmission, our Vibe GT test car's 2.4-liter engine powers the wagon from zero to 60 mph in an invigorating 8.9 seconds — a fairly impressive showing for its class. Around town, this willing engine makes the GT zippy and acquiescent, allowing it to easily finesse city and freeway traffic like a surfer on the crest of a righteous wave. The Vibe's transmission proves a capable match for this torquey inline-4.

At a combined 19.3 mpg, reported fuel economy is unimpressive, and dips below EPA estimates. Those estimates peg the 2009 Pontiac Vibe GT at 21 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway. These numbers trail those achieved by competitors like the Mazda3 and Honda Fit, and mark the GT as somewhat of a laggard in this category.

The artificially low limits of its non-defeat stability control system serve to hamper the Vibe GT's performance in skid pad and slalom testing. On the skid pad, the wagon managed an unspectacular 0.75 g, with abundant body roll. On the slalom, its average speed was a lackluster 59.1 mph. However, our test-driver did note that while the Vibe feels tall through transitions, it never feels dangerous, as its limits are kept in check. When driven less aggressively around town, the GT's steering is reasonably responsive, and the wagon tackles corners with poise.

Pontiac's wagon offers ride quality that manages to be most things for most people. It's taut enough to satisfy those seeking some connection with the tarmac, but not so stiff as to put off those whose mandate is comfort.

A Limousine from Ukraine

This one's going to make you shake the booty for sure. Instead of pulling out a cliché limo design, the customized Pontiac Aztek we have here has a lot more to offer. You can think about tweaking sports cars for crazy performance readings that you can brag about but when you talk about six exhaust tips and 14 inch wheels. The hood is blessed with aerodynamic hood bulges for the wiper blades. Just imagine it to be a monster charging at you and that will satisfy your urge and save you a trip to Ukraine for the ultimate.

Limousine from Ukraine-1Limousine from Ukraine-2Limousine from Ukraine-3Limousine from Ukraine-4The ornamental door handles leave a royal touch to this one. At some point of time I feel that there is a bit of too much stuffed into a luxury kid like this one. It's simply the work of someone with too much of time and money. Long live he!

2009 Pontiac Solstice Coupe

(from General Motors Press Release) PONTIAC UNVEILS 2009 SOLSTICE COUPE: Hardtop Extends Appeal of Classic Design

NEW YORK – Drawing inspiration from classic sports cars, the 2009 Pontiac Solstice coupe was created for drivers who appreciate both dramatic styling and balanced performance. Unveiled at the New York Auto Show as a GXP model, the Solstice coupe builds on the success of the convertible model while offering a greater range of all-season driving opportunities.

2009 Pontiac Solstice Coupe-12009 Pontiac Solstice Coupe-2For drivers still wanting an open-air experience, the coupe also features a removable roof panel, fully opening the cockpit to all of the sensations of the road.

“Today’s Solstice is the top-selling roadster in the U.S., and we believe this new model has even broader appeal,” said Jim Bunnell, Buick-Pontiac-GMC general manager. “The coupe has all the design cues and pleasing performance of the original roadster, and is an all-season alternative for people who enjoy open-air driving.”

Engineering the design
Despite its dramatic new look, engineers made only minor structural changes to create the Solstice coupe. The rear fenders and rear fascia are the same as those on the convertible. New taillight assemblies flow more smoothly into the tapered roofline.

“The Solstice coupe represents a major collaboration of design and engineering,” said Bruce Kosbab, chief engineer. “The sleek lines of the new roof give the car a fresh appearance, yet only minimal changes were made to the body structure – it’s a great example of building on an already solid foundation.”

Powertrain and suspension
Because the change to a coupe body style resulted in only a slight increase in curb weight, no drivetrain or suspension changes were necessary to shift from the convertible body structure. Initial tests have shown that the Solstice coupe will deliver ride and handling, acceleration, braking and fuel economy comparable to the convertible model.

The coupe is powered by a standard 2.4L Ecotec four-cylinder engine that generates 173 horsepower (129 kW), while the GXP version is equipped with a 2.0L turbocharged Ecotec engine with 260 horsepower (194 kW).

2008 Pontiac G8 GXP - New York '08 Preview

The Northeast is the Pontiac division's largest market, and the brand -- which has played the stepchild in recent years, banished to the outer limits of exhibition halls -- is finally getting its own coming out party in New York next week. The resurgent Performance Division will flex its muscles at the Javits Center. Joining the 2010 G8 sport truck (and maybe another newcomer sporting the Arrowhead badge) is the highly-anticipated Pontiac G8 GXP.

2008 Pontiac G8 GXPThe new Poncho flagship wears subtle visual tweaks including updated front and rear fascias plus the same 19" HSV wheels that were shown on the G8 concept. More importantly, the GXP packs GM's 6.2L LS3 V8 underhood. In this application (it's also in the Vette, where it makes even more power), the small-block punches out 402 horses and 400 lb-ft of torque rearward via a Tremec 6-speed manual gearbox or a HydraMatic 6L80 auto.

A fully-adjustable suspension helps keep the muscle sedan planted to the tarmac, and stopping power comes from the gang at Brembo. Look for an upgraded interior with glitzier trim and well-bolstered leather sport seats. A Pontiac stand littered with V8s? It's sure been a while. Welcome back to the party, guys. Let the wanton tire destruction begin!

PontiacG8 Definitely Not Lost in Translation

We’re still waiting for some seat time in the much-anticipated, rear-wheel-drive Pontiac G8 sport sedan, but the details continue to trickle in regarding exactly how the G8 differs from Australia’s home-grown muscle car, the Holden Commodore SS, which the G8 will be assembled alongside.

Pontiac G8Fortunately, it’s sounding like what’s soon arriving to Pontiac dealerships is remarkably similar mechanically to Australia’s muscle car icon.According to Pontiac’s marketing director, Craig Bierly, there are relatively few chassis differences between the Commodore SS and the sporty G8 GT model. Bierly verified that the so-called FE2 suspension, standard on the G8 GT and optional on the G8 V6, is identical to that used in the Aussie Commodore SS. On the other hand, the FE1 suspension, standard on the V6 model, is a U.S.-exclusive tune.

Prices and equipment for the G8 were announced last year. The G8 V6, with a 256-hp, 3.6-liter V-6, will start at $27,595, while the G8 GT, with a 361-hp, 6.0-liter V-8, teases at $29,995 — both significantly lower than the Commodore’s translated sticker price.

One thing that the U.S.-market Commodore..ehem, G8 GT…will have on the big 6.0-liter V-8 that the Down Under car doesn’t is Active Fuel Management, which brings the V-8’s EPA highway estimate up to 24 mpg. The 25-mpg figure for the V-6 model isn’t much better, and is significantly lower than that of the Grand Prix, which the G8 is replacing. Performance is a strength though for both models; the V-8 can get to 60 mph in 5.3 seconds, and the car has a near-ideal weight distribution.

GM’s Australian division, Holden, also built the GTO coupe, which was sold in the U.S. through the 2006 model year. It was closely related to the Australian-market Holden Monaro and was eventually discontinued due to slow sales. GM had been hoping to sell 20,000 GTOs per year, but sales struggled to reach that rate in any of its model years; the company is hoping to move about 50 percent more than the original GTO target, according to Bierly, or about 30,000 G8s annually.

The first 888 G8s to be sold in the U.S. will be brought over as a group and given a special instrument-panel plaque featuring a VIN-related number sequence from 001 to 888. There are well over twice that number of Pontiac dealerships in the U.S.

2009 Pontiac Vibe GT

Pontiac has given the Vibe wagon a makeover for the 2009 model year. The '09 Vibe was unveiled Tuesday and goes on sale early next year. The Vibe's makeover coincides with a redesign for its mechanical twin, the Toyota Matrix. Toyota introduced the new Matrix last week during the SEMA show in Las Vegas.

2009 Pontiac Vibe GT2009 Pontiac Vibe GT-22009 Pontiac Vibe GT-3The '09 Vibe comes in three trim levels--base, AWD and GT. The redesign marks the return of all-wheel drive and the GT trim level to the Vibe lineup. The first-generation Vibe was launched in 2002 as a 2003 model.

Base engine for the Vibe is a 1.8-liter, inline four with variable valve timing. The engine is rated at 132 hp and 128 ft-lb of torque. It is mated to either a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission.A 2.4-liter inline four is the standard engine for the AWD and GT trim levels, and optional on the base Vibe. It is rated at 158 hp and 162 ft-lb of torque. With the AWD model, the engine is mated to a four-speed automatic transmission. Buyers of the GT or a base model equipped with the larger engine get a choice between the five-speed manual and an optional five-speed automatic.

Standard hardware on all models includes four-wheel disc brakes with ABS and stability control. All Vibes come with electric power steering. The front suspension uses MacPherson struts. In the back, the base Vibe gets a torsion beam rear suspension. AWD and GT models use a multi-link rear suspension.

2007 Pontiac G8 GT

(from General Motors Press Release) Designed for enthusiasts who are passionate about performance, the all-new Pontiac G8 performance sedan – arriving at dealerships in early 2008 – is the first North American application of GM’s new global rear-wheel-drive architecture.

2007 Pontiac G8 GT2007 Pontiac G8 GT-2The V8-powered G8 GT SEMA Edition was displayed at the ’07 SEMA Show with a host of tuner-inspired custom touches, including a hot orange paint scheme with matching leather seat inserts, door panels and instrument panel pad.

Under the hood is the production 6.0L V-8, rated at 361 horsepower (268 kW) and 385 lb.-ft. of torque (520 Nm). A six-speed automatic transmission with Driver Shift Control backs the powerful small-block engine and complements a four-wheel independent suspension outfitted with unique 20-inch wheels and performance tires.

The G8 has a progressive styling package highlighted by strong Pontiac design cues, such as a dual-port grille, fog lamps, bold wheels and a confident, wheels-at-the-corners stance. The car’s design accents Pontiac’s performance lineage, with fenders that flare over the wheels, seemingly hugging the wide tires and enhancing its athletic stance.

Distinctive elements include hood scoops and front fender vents, as well as projector-beam headlamps housed in crystal-clear lenses. At the rear, taillamps feature bright detail work surrounding the red lighting elements.
