Slotting between the Chevrolet HHR and TrailBlazer, the Equinox comes with front-wheel drive -- all-wheel drive is optional on all models -- and standard V6 power.
LS, LT and LTZ models come equipped with a 3.4L V6 -- rated at 185 horsepower and 210 lb-ft of torque -- mated to a five-speed automatic. In both two and four-wheel drive, the engine returns 17/24 mpg city/highway.The Sport models gives a healthy dose of performance to the crossover and upgrades the Equinox's engine to a 3.6L VVT V6, outputting 264 horsepower. That extra power is put to the ground via a six-speed automatic transmission. The Sport model also rides on a lowered suspension and wears unique 18 inch wheels.
No matter what the trim level, the Equinox comes with an impressive list of standard features, including OnStar, StabiliTrak electronic stability control system and a tire pressure monitoring system.
